Why can't these guys get full assault Apache helicopters, the country can afford it, and it shouldn't be just for the war against insurgency. This best should be given to the police.
Do they sell Apache's to just anybody who turns up with a wad of cash?

Many people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge. These helicopters are light attack helicopters for special missions though they are not gunships. The Agusta 109k helo is the military variant that's what we acquired our lead gunship is the All weather mi35m gunship. We have more than 20 of it and we're are expecting our remaining first order of 12...
Bro you get time sef, one said Cameroon has Apache and Nigeria mi24 was crashed by a Russian pilot and only one is left, I tried to tag them but I just thought to myself, its not worth it

Agusta 109 has was never designed or designated to be an attack helicopter , it s designed as a light weight transport helicopter so for the Nigerian airforce to want to use it as a primary attack helicopter shows the level of unseriousness of the Buhari govt , JONATHAN purchased 4 Mi24 Hinds which are real attack helicopters with troop transport capabilities .. see below what the entry level Agusta attack helicopter the AW 129 Mangusta looks like and tell me is that thing above looks attackish in anyway and I am sure the corrupt govt bought it more expensive than a real attack Helicopter.
The thing taya me sef, the deception by this Govt is extraordinary. How can compare this transport for oil workers to Hind Mi24 or Apache as if we don't follow events sadinternationally.

Please don't come argue with me over what I do..you don't even know the difference between a combat helicopter and attack helicopter so go an sleep
I thought at first, there was no difference between Attack Helos and combat helos. But you were right there's a wide difference I just looked it up. Attack helps are more equipped and weaponised than combat helos which are just fitted with light weapons e.g. the Alpha Jet was not originally designed to be a Jet fighter but was meant to be a jet trainer. Here's a useful link.

Get your facts right before passing your information
Agusta 109 is an attack helicopter can can be used for combat, the MI 35 helicopter is an helicopter gunship which is bigger and have more fire power,so don't say the Agusta helicopter doesn't look attacking in anyway
Don't miss inform the public, there are different grades level attack helicopter just like u have in fighter jets
Agusta 109 attack helicopter picture below
It is you who need education. The 109 is not designated as an attack helicopter. What you have there is a modification. You can actually fit armament in on a civilian helicopter.
The true attack airceaft are the apache, the cobras and the Russian Mi4.
Even the Huey helicopter that saw the deployment of about 7,000 units in the Vietnam war are not true attack helicopter but some were modified and fitted with rocket pods.
Below is the 129 which is a true attack helicopter

I too detest this Augusta 109 helicopter. I consider myself among Nigeria army greatest fans but cannot support our sometimes A-Team approach to equipping the military. We just seem reluctant to modernise the army, penny pinching away the lives of our fighting men. Perhaps Nigeria fears that international players are funding conflict in the Nation in order to turn Nigeria into a major arms procuring country, who knows.

Isn't this the kind of helicopter used by rich people? This isn't a helicopter that can be use for war.

Technically, gunships and attack helicopters are not the same, though they can share the attack role. Gunships are modified aircraft to carry weapons, while attack helicopters are designed for only that role.
You are the one confusing yourself on this issue pls

We are not talking about gunships. You classified the A109 as a pure attack helicopter. That's where i beg to differ. Check those pics again.
I under why the NA is doing this. The 109 cost about 6 million dollars while the apache and cobras starts from 11 million. What the NA does is get a civilian multi purpose copter and weaponise it

This helicopters looks like toys compared to what fighter helicopters are, and I'm sure they'll procure them at the cost of the sophisticated ones.

If there were such efforts in the past to build the capacity of the Military, the armed forces would be better equipped to confront the challenges we face as a nation.
Were you not in this country when these same people were in the opposition & they frustrated the effort of the GEJ government to purchase arms. Then, they claimed BH were their brothers & the FG wanted to purchase weapons to kill their people.
