Good development. We'll surely reach the promise land some day. If not during our generation then certainly our children's generation. There's hope for this country. Let's all work together to achieve that. God bless Nigeria.

I share your sentiments.

What pains me the most is that it is foreign contractors and engineers handling these projects, thereby creating wealth for their own home countries.

Yet, Nigeria has thousands of engineers being churned out of the universities every year.

They have hundreds of engineering professors in these institutions. Yet, we ship their work off to foreigners.

When you travel abroad, these same foreigners won't hire you fresh off the boat unless you go to their schools etc

It is hard to deny that there is a lot of massive projects ongoing but I wish we get our security within the country right, its becoming alarming to say the least.

I saw it. 75% Chinese, 25% local funding.

Makes it even worse.

There is no free lunch anywhere.

Be rest assured that Nigeria will be paying back soon enough, one way or the other.

Chinese recolonization of Africa is real o.

Zungeru started as far back as 2013, wonder why it took so long??

If you read the post you would have noticed that it was plagued by legal issues.

If you re not dumb. You would ve seen the project started 2013, sophisticated morronic afonja

The project started in May 2013 but legal matters and funding stalled its construction, its now expected to be completed by Dec 2021, and first unit is expected to start generation by Dec 2020.

Are you re.tarded?

Where will you build a dam, Niger Delta?

This is the 3rd dam on this "desert" River Kaduna all in Niger state. If you dont know, River Kaduna is the main tributary of River Niger all the way from the hills of Plateau state. Shiroro is upstream of this dam while Kainji is downstream of this dam on the same River Kaduna.

A dam location is chosen from a series of natural occuring geographical features which you will not easily find anywhere but where it is, Niger state. Take it elsewhere, and flood will consume the land and people. Dam River Niger in Enugu and see the disaster that will unfold. The Mambila dam is on the tributary of the River Benue.

5 main features of a dam location is high current River, a large upstream reservoir area, a high gradient between upstream and downstream, 2 adjacent hills to the river and a very good environmental impact assessment report.

Have you ever been to Zungeru, or you just felt like commenting because of the hatred that blinded your eyes? Lemme schooled you, Zungeru is in Niger State, Niger state got its name from River Niger, if you are looking for a desert go to Sokoto, Zamfara and some part of Katsina, Jigawa, read your book and don't let the hatred in you push you to make comments that will make you stupid

Chinese recolonization of Africa is real o.

I totally agree with you.

The Chinese are smart with this thing they do.

They give a country a loan, take it back as a contract for a project. While executing the project, they make a huge profit from it by charging the country construction profits plus loan profit at the same time. Say the construction profit is 25% of the contract and the loan profit is another 25%, that makes a 50% profit on the loan sum.

To make matters worst, they will not even have to disburse 100% of the loan, what they actually disburse is 37.5% while Nigeria brings 12.5% upfront for the project.

Say the dam cost $1billion, $750million is a loan with a 25% interest. Nigeria owes China $750+187.5million=$937.5m. But Nigeria needs counterpart funding of 25% so the actual cost to Nigeria for the dam is $937.5+250m=$1.187.5b. Meanwhile China will make 25% of $1b as construction profit as well as 187.5m as loan interest. Add the profit of $250m + loan interest $187.5m =$437.5m.

China makes $437.5m profit on $750m while the citizens get jobs and earn money outside the profit amount.

Also the only money they need to disburse in executing the project is $750-250m=$500m. They will recover over 100% when the loan is due.

Highway robbery indeed!
