I don’t have a problem with them,,, it is you criticizing Nigeria musicians for lack of content, and pass them unfit for global recognition,, i expect you to judge Africa musicians wit their counterparts in America

Google the definition of criticism, then read my comment again..then drink cold zobo

Don't mind the kid. Of what basis is the middle finger?
She even did something great by dedicating the award to Burna boy and we all should commend her for that.

Burna is a fellow Rivers Man but you'll never see him come out straight to boast or be proud of his state of origin

He will never win a Grammy

A well deserved win to Kidjo.
The content of her songs are out of this world. She is a mix of Maya Angelou and Miriam Makeba.

Music lovers and genuine content critics like myself would have given up on the credibility and essence of the Grammy Awards if another undeserving artiste had won this.

Sentiments aside, Nigeria is yet to replicate another Fela Kuti in the global music sphere.

Fela is the only Nigerian deserving of a Grammy.
Because music is not about dancesteps or groupie trends but about a movement, a message, reawakening a consciousness and yet the melody from real musical instruments.
This is a reality lost on today's Nigerian artistes aside from Asá who still lacks in consistency.

As an African act, till your music can be accepted by Pastors, Imams, Youths, elders, global leaders, United Nations and illiterates, then you stand a chance of being an African Album or winning a foreign award in Music.

Nigeria and Nigerians must understand that club bangers do not translate to foreign awards in global music.
The first I'm finding your comment not offensive or foul and yet, filled with wisdom.

2Face, Dbanj, Wizkid, Davido and other Nigerian artists will be very happy he isn't the first Nigerian to win it...don't look at me like that, it's just the truth...forget that they will go public to be sympathetic (na lie e no reach their Belle)

Hypocrisy is part of our DNA... Aren't we Nigerians just mysterious?

Lol! Those four took naija afrobeats style to the international market before burna, so it’s only normal for them to feel dt way. Even if they don’t want to, some naija pple would want to rubbish their record because of it.

Wanting to be no1 is not just a naija thing though it’s human nature if u give in to it. Even Selena Gomez was going to different Walmart’s with friends buying her CDs & urging her fans to do the same, because she wanted her album to reach no1. Just last week o. She got a lot of disses from black Americans cos RoddyRich was no1 in the country & she badly wanted to push him off the spot.

This is wrong. Beyoncé, Eminem, MJ's 'Thriller', Taylor Swift's '1989', and even Jay Z have all won the Grammy Album of the year award.

Most of the songs on their albums are club bangers, and widely accepted by younger generations. I can't imagine any of Jay Z's, and Eminem songs that will will be accepted by religious leaders.

Most educated folks don't even understand Eminem's raps because he is always dissing the world and lacing his materials with double and triple entendres.

The category is much more beyond acceptability and the class or category of people your album resonate with. Kidjo will still return and win another next year as always.

Good point, but please get the facts right.
Beyoncé, Eminem and Jay-Z have "NEVER" won the Grammy award for "Album of the Year".

Thank you.

Please who has second hand brain to sell? I need one for this miscreant poster, even if it one that has once been used for money ritual, it will still be better than what this poster currently carries in his skull.

Mentioning Eminem in that list, just show that you don't know him or understand Eminem like you said. Please don't drag that legend into this shit.

The guy just jejely dragged legends through the mud cos burna boy didn't win

Eminem
Jay Z
Beyonce
MJ
Taylor

These are legends in their music sphere

When mentioning musicians, MJ should be on an entirely different list where only him resides

What do I know?

I knew from the start that burna was really going to struggle with this woman on the list.so far I think the only musician that can match up with this woman is 2 Baba.

2baba is another thing entirely... He's good

Well he's slowed down now I guess, he needs to rekindle the legend in him

If nobody calls 2face a legend, me I won't follow that bandwagon, he's good

Nice... the best won.

Even Burna is her fan. That's why he sampled her track "We We" as a bridge in his own track "Anybody". For those who didn't know this, please listen to both tracks.

You have spoken with wisdom.

Are you minding Nigerians? The majority of people supporting Burna Boy did so based on sentiments, something which the selecting board is mercifully free from.

I know a lot of people will strongly disagree but Burna still has a long way to go before he can win an award as prestigious as a Grammy. As I mentioned previously on another thread, Angelique is light years ahead of Burna Boy.

Anyway, getting a nomination in the first place is a big deal so he may well be on his way.
They are light years apart. I listen to songs with deep soul piercing lyrics and meanings even if I don't understand the lyrics. Angelique gives to the world what Coldplay gives to us. Music isn't just words and sounds. Music is a frequency, a vibration, an energy, a force that links the mundane with the ethereal, that is the level her music takes me to whenever I am listening to her album. You cannot just not feel a jolt when you listen to songs like Babalao, Naima, Afirika, We are one et al. Fongbe is a soulful language and it pains me that my wife can't speak it despite her ancestral roots is from the same region as Angelique's. (she was born and raised in Lagos though). I would have loved for my wife to translate her songs to me.

Mister man listen to her yourself. Stop arguing with me. I will not do your homework for you. The video is there for you to watch.

As per your second query. What kind of Yoruba do they speak in Benin? If you live among the Benin Yorubas of course you will grow up to speak that Yoruba. Just as if an Ijebu was born/ grew up in Lagos you speak Lagos Yoruba not Ijebu Yoruba what is hard to understand.

Please don't quote me again until you watch just a few minutes of that video (starting from minute 3).
You know it's always good to call the bluffs of people like you.

I knew watching the video will expose your lies

She said and i quote"my mum told me that her family is from Iseyin" She said when they returned from Portugal (to Benin) as slaves they were able to trace their family to Iseyin.

Side note : Some Yoruba Slaves were returned to Port Novo in Benin, Accra in Ghana and Lagos in Nigeria after the Male Uprising in Brazil (Portuguese colony)

And she claims her mum also has blood relatives in Abeokuta because her maternal grandmother is from Abeokuta. She also claimed she has family friends in Ibadan, Lagos and Oyo.

Note she didn't mention her father and her mother is actually from Port Novo..

I am sure you never watched the video yourself..
