Just what I was thinking, I knew a girl that was raised by a single mom with five kids because they lost their dad. A whole five kids, and the last one has graduated.
Just assume you have no choice but to raise the kid on your own, being depressed will not help anything, it will only make it harder to properly love and care for your child.
Try and reconcile with your MIL and don't be angry she didn't admonish her son because the truth is that majority of MILs will put their sons happiness first. For her to care for both you and the child for the past eight months shows that she had good intentions and meant you well.
You self go out and get a job, tell your story and financial issues to as many people as possible, let them know you are desperate for work and money and trust me, you will find someone to help you. Many Nigerians love helping poor people with sob stories.
