We are buying some piston engine fighter aircrafts in 2020 and you think its a good thing.

I was being sarcastic when I said 1951.
It is a gas turbine powered propeller engine. Pls STFU of you dont know.
Nigeria has many jet engine aircraft.
JF 17s are coming they are jet engine powered. For the role we are buying these aircraft for, turbo-prop is preferred over turbojet. QED

If you dont know you keep shut. Turbo -prop aircraft are not extinct. Nigeria needed a slow, manned, steady platform to deliver precision weapons and this aircraft is the best in.that role.
The US Airfoece is using it for the same purpose we are buying it. Brazil, Afghanistan and Mali are using it.
Propeller aircraft have flight dynamics that fit certain operations. Some of the best UAVs now are propeller driven.
Thanks
Most drones use propeller.

If our government can invest in the citizens, I bet you in less than 30 years we will be building ours. Iran that's been under sanctions for ages are building jet power crafts
I took Iran more than 20years to be able to design jet engine and they spend billions in research and development. You people like you will be the first to complain if government start spending billions on research.

A source disclosed that first batch of 12 A-29 ordered by Nigerian government from the US may land in Nigeria this year.

Nigeria is also ready to receive 7 Russian Mi35 helicopter. This move is expected to boost army operations against insurgency.

Read up on it first. You seem not to know anything about it.
Nigeria is not about to fight a drug war in the jungle or mountainous terrain. This slow flying craft can be downed with AK-47. A country cannot call itself leader or among the leaders in a continent and buy these junks as a front line attack plane.

Which quarter? No, don’t say, i don’t think I could bare it. I don tire for read about quarter. I've been reading about quarter since 2017. J17 was going to arrive first quarter 2017, then it was second quarter, then third quarter. Christmas 2017 came and went, then I read J17 would be with us first quarter 2018, then it was second quarter, then third quarter, Christmas 2018 came and went -nothing. 2019, we learnt j17 would be with us first quarter, then it was second quarter, then third quarter. Christmas 2019 came and went- nothing! Now we are in 2020 and being told that first batch of 12 A-29 ordered by Nigerian government from the US may land in Nigeria. Bidexxi’s military thread, source of all First, Second and Third quarter tales also has declared, J17, will be here soon, presumably first quarter or abi na queer corner

Make your findings. No where in the World where order placed for fighter jets and it will arrive the following year. They are not like cars you buy anytime. When you place an order for fighter jets the manufacturing process will start and it may take 5 years and even more.

Nigeria government placed order for 3 jf 17 and 12 A-29 Super Tucano. Several mi17 and mi35 helicopter from Russian have been received by Nigerian army and more are still coming

Please read the operational history. The answer is there. Its used for counter-insurgency. Also it has a history just take small time check.

Check operational history and the aircrafts role in military campaigns.

Now look at our urgent and immediate security challenge. You can notice its largely banditry and insurgency.

FGN priority for now is solving that security problem and its other underlying treats.

Our top national enemies currently use weapons, which with the right motivation and logistical support for security operatives can be eradicated or brought under control.

Should the need arise in form of air support for boots on-group. Running a normal jet fighter will drain alot more resources for the campaign. The plane in question is suited and designed to survive, provide the support needed at minimal cost.

We are not fighting an advanced armed country/enemy at the moment with and airforce of sort. That we will go tow-tow in air combat .

Our challenge most likely needs intelligence, wider air patrols/interdictions, quick response with the right force, rapid deployment and troop combat support.

Not buying big jets like say we are going to fight war with a conventional army and air force.

Some funny guy said Super Tucano will be downed by AK 47.
Downed by AK 47 at 24000 ft, ode.
Boko Haram has stolen AAA weaponry that is a threat to ALL aircraft. Even jet engine powered Alpha Jet was shot down once sp it does not really matter the speed. Our Super Tucanoes have intellgent bombs that will glide over 3miles from the aircraft up in the sky to blow up Boko Haram locations and stationary vehicles.
For mobile vehicles, there are super accurate rockets coming and the same kinds of missiles that US used during operation desert storm 2.

There are rapid fire 20mm canons that are even more effective than the rockets and bombs that Super Tucano will carry

All these accurate precision weapons need a slow platform (aircraft) for delivery.
To patrol and look carefully from.the sky into the sahel savannah forests where Boko Haram hides and built their bases also need slow and steady platform to make the sensors work.

More importantly there are people in the Nigeria Airforce who have bern doing their work before some commentators were born. So you STFU.
The best aerospace engineers and electronic engineers in Nigeria are in the NAF. So also the best strategic planners.
Again STFU and learn
