Phil Foden should keep his place in the Manchester City midfield for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup after his impressive showing at Wembley on Sunday.

Foden deservedly won the Man of the Match award in the Carabao Cup final win over Aston Villa, earning praise from a number of his teammates and manager Pep Guardiola.

The 19-year-old has started both of City's FA Cup games so far this season, scoring once and assisting twice in wins over Port Vale and Fulham at the Etihad. He also started against Preston, Southampton and Oxford in the Carabao Cup as Pep Guardiola has preferred to use the midfielder away from the Premier League.

While calls will grow for Foden to get more league experience before the end of the season - especially as City's focus switches towards the remaining cup competitions - it makes sense to start him at Hillsborough to give him a bit of momentum after his Wembley showing.

Kevin de Bruyne came off the bench on Sunday and could return to the starting line-up, even with the weekend's trip to Manchester United in mind. Guardiola will want to take no chances in the cup, and De Bruyne's form at the moment is as close as he can get to a guaranteed level of performance.

Ahead of the exciting midfield partnership, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva - both rested against Villa - could return on the wings, along with Gabriel Jesus. Guardiola can use his substitutions to rotate his forward line in the second half ahead of the United game.

At the back, John Stones was guilty of allowing Villa through to score their goal on Sunday, but he should start again to help his confidence. The England man clearly needs a run of games, so Championship opposition could be a perfect game to put the Villa mistake behind him.
