I'm sure the cost of the pieces of meat he ate is not up to monthly salary, the owner should have deducted it from his salary with a serious warning/query instead of taking him to court.

Very very petty owner. The case should have been dismissed for lack of guilt.
He works in the hotel hence right8or wrongly he was tasting the meat for QA. Should have simply been dismissed from work and end of story.
