Judge try. He gave the chap a sentence of community service when by law he could have sent the guy to prison.

It is not about what was stolen. It is about principle, if you let people take from you, they will keep coming back until they take all u've got.

Not fair. A case was brought before him, shouldn't he judge.
Are you not seeing that the sentence was merely to sweep the Court's premises?
We don't criticize constructively in this country.
We should learn to start settling issues in court more often, it will prevent repetition.

As a Hotelier, Pilfering is a very serious crime in the hospitality industry. However sub charging him would have been a better option but I think there must have been a high rise in cases like this before the owner would take this drastic step. This will serve as a deterrent to other staff.

Useless boss am very sure he is not even paying his employees well enough but he has money to go court over a piece of fried meat, am not in any way supporting stealing but what the boss did is wrong simple reduct from his salary or suspension

In this country, so many people are seriously looking for work, no matter how little. As a business owner, make the mistake of trying to help them by giving them work, they will tend to prove to you that you're a fool. They will introduce all manner of acts that will make you regret ever starting a business and getting them employed there.
People are so wicked and stupid that they can kneel down and worship you while begging to be employed, but when that happens, they would want to remove food from your mouth. Why would anyone steal away his/her future? Who says that what you met there is a common wealth? Did your employer steal from your father/mother? Why should you suddenly grow horns to engage in unethical things?
Well, for those vilifying the hotel owner, know it that one day you will be in his shoes. Do you know what he went through to establish such a place, only for your useless, good-for-nothing brothers and sisters to come and steal him blind? Others even went further to condemn the Judge for doing his work. Can you see the kind of country we find ourselves in? Needless blaming the man that labeled it "a zoo"! Where are we going from here?
Why should we glorify evil because it's being done to someone else? I believe, if we are the ones, we will do worse things... Hmmm, God is watching us all...

why not deduct the #5k from his salary and ask him to go instead of court ?, now that he will sweep for maybe a week what is the gain of the manager

What the employee did was very wrong no doubt about that but honestly if mean were to be God, our sins will never be forgiven.

That would spoil the young man's image in the future just in case he aspires to a public office.

After all the wahala "sentenced to community service", sweep the court premises. What lesson was then learnt by the other staff? Killing a fly with a sledge hammer. Tomorrow the man or his children may offend someone too and not be forgiven.

As for the young man his long throat made him forget where he was.

I know most people will see this as bizarre cos of our mental orientation, but justice must prevail.

Our justice system is wrong, just for stealing meats, when our politicians are stealing billions of naira and nothing happens, just only few cases of them that has been concluded and serving their jail terms.
