Wizkid is making profit from the importion of generator I guess. Lmao...when there is 24/7 power supply then that bill isn't necessary because people will definitely stop buying.

So you want them to drag the entire nation to complete darkness, I mean back to zoo age? Every new government since democracy has promised 24hrs electricity, this government not excluded. The meetings between Kyari and Siemens is unknown. undecided

You know how much generator making companies dey sort these politicians dey even have agents that cause power cuts. The senator has a point but didn't approach it in the right manner. If the law is in place we would think about more source of power and really see that there is a problem. But these senators would also be the first to break the law

Are you guys ready to pay for the 24 hour electricty.??

Yes, the DISCOS are ripping us off, and the whole prepaid meter ish is another story. (and see this am's thread on estimated billing...darn).

But when most Nigerians don't pay their bills, and when most Nigerians use violence on DISCO workers trying to carry out their lawful duty(a customs officer actually pointed a loaded weapon at DISCO officers, and was not prosecuted for it), and when many people use the power for free...and when many Nigerian government agencies lead the way in owing the DISCOS....what do you expect?

Nigeria generates 5000MW right now. And by my estimate, we need to generate 50000MW electricity to even have something near 24 hour power (just for comparison, South Africa generates 44000MW, and even they have rolling blackouts...for about 50million people...plus they export to at least 3 other countries.)

And to improve power (forget the SIEMENS deal...generation up to 25000MW...which would not do much for a population of 200million unless they cut off wide swathes of the country)...we have to pay for it because POWER IS PRIVATIZED.

But the problem with the privatization is that prices are fixed by the government via NERC. As a result, DISCOS cannot charge the fees they need to charge to make enough profit , and thus cannot pay GENCOS the money for the gas and hydropower,, as well as raise enough cash for the TCN to improve transmission. Also, the whole price fixing is why no foreign investor wanted to come in in the first place. Who wants to come and then find you cannot make profits? That's why we have 'useless discos'.

If we want power, we have to run power as a business. Yes, we would pay high prices, but eventually prices would come down...with improved investment and funding. Let's be honest with ourselves.
shut up sir. give us light we will pay. U know how much for fuel Per week? Once again shut the hell up

That Senator is suffering from extreme phsycosis. He did not sponsor a bill mandating FG to provide average of 8hours electricity to Nigerians.

This what u get when u have wak electoral system.

8hrs is below average, to me.

we should be talk of 18hrs at least here.

One more question for you.

If you were selling shirts at 2000 naira a piece after buying them at 1000 naira a piece from the wholesalers , and government came in and told you to sell them at 500 naira and paid you 500 naira as subsidy, would you agree?

Would WizKid agree to government forcing him to charge 200 naira for tickets to his concerts? For the benefit of the poor?

That's how we treat the Discos.

Good afternoon. Yes, truth is bitter. I hate saying this, but you cannot get 24 hour power without paying for it.

Wizkid said the right thing at the right time. Even a mad man can understand that you can't ban gen. when your country doesn't have 24/7 electricity. That's what I use to survive. All those old Hausa men that didn't go to school. May God deliver this nation!
