It depends on the type of car and how recent the car is.

On a recent car, there will be interferences.

Also, how sure are you your car didn't come with one. Some cars have the key fob separate and misplaced so you could buy a car with keyless entry but didnt receive the key.

2001 Camry comes with keyless but i think its an option. Your car may have the module or not. Make a research, if it has, it can be easy to get the factory keyless back to work.

Do a YouTube search of the keyless entry module location.

Check the location in you car and if you find it, them you have it but it its not there, then you dont have it. Also trims like LE XLE and above should have it.

If its there, the key fob will be cheap on AliExpress.

YouTube is your friend as adanny01 stated earlier.

IMO getting the factory type is better than the aftermarket sold around.
Its cheap though.... The one I did for a 05 corrola early last year still functional without any issues.

The car didn't come with any remote control when it was gotten, so I don't know if it's has the module.

If not would have gotten a remote and follow YouTube instructions to program it myself.

You didn't buy the car brand new, did you?

The previous owner or owners could have lost it and will not cause any trouble. It doesn't harm you to find out.

We imported the car directly in 2009
But we weren't using it regularly, so am putting it to use now

Including buying and workmanship.... Didn't take the guy 30mins, he didn't loose any wiring.
He just got the *follow come* remote, then programmed it.

I suspect same case in this case. Op should try this first before getting an after market system. Try AliExpress for the fob then program. Op doesn't need a scanner or device to program, its a procedure and its all available online. It should be less than 2k to get the fob.
