What year is your BMW and its model. I believe this (overheating) is a known problem in pre 98 3 models and pre 96 5 models. The only thing you can do is to find a specialist and get it fixed. |

1) Check to make sure that the radiator fan comes on, when the temperature goes up. You can test this by keeping the engine running for a while. 2) You may have to change the radiator cap. (I had the same problem with my '90 5 series way back in 2001) Happy Bimmering! |

There are so many reasons your BMW (any car) could overheat. 1. Your cap should be pressure check and make sure it's properly working 2. You may be leaking coolant from your radiator or from a hose 3 Your thermostat may not be closing and opening properly. 4.Your radiator may be blocked by a foreign body and your coolant is not circulating. 5. Your water pump is going out and may need to be changed (that's not cheap) 6. check all the wiring to the fan it may be shorting out somewhere. Like the previous poster said take your car to a professional, a road side mechanic may fix the short term problem just for it to start overheating in 6 months. |

It might be a head gasket problem. Are you using the green coolant? |
