Anambra state residents have called on the state government to construct toilets in public places and streets in major towns and cities across the states of the federation to effectively check open defecation.

Some residents while speaking in Awka, the state capital said open defecation could be checked when people could have easy access to toilet.

Why do people defecate in the open? Because there are few places to do your business.

Rather than declare "war" and waste a whole bunch of energy and resources, Yobe should build public toilets, ensure that people have working toilets at homes and schools (including funding), and sensitize people. But that is hard and will interfere with the governor's traveling and squandering of public funds, so hence taking the easy route and banning it.

We really like to ban, ban, ban, ban. No understanding or appreciation of the fundamental issues, nor the patience and political will to play the long game and do things right.
