IGP ENGAGES KOGI STAKEHOLDERS AHEAD OF GUBERNATORIAL ELECTIONS

Warns Against Electoral Violence, Offences, Orders Force CID to Investigate Anyigba Invasion, Killings

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, in his continued commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure electoral process during the 11th November off-cycle gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, convened a crucial meeting with key stakeholders in Kogi State today, November 8, 2023.

The meeting, which was held in the state capital, brought together various stakeholders including political leaders, representatives of political parties, civil society organizations electoral officials, traditional and religious leaders, youth leaders, and security agencies. The primary goal of this gathering was to engage in constructive dialogue, share information, and strategize on measures to guarantee a free, fair, credible, and peaceful electoral process in the state.

The IGP also encouraged political leaders to play a significant role in maintaining the peace by promoting a culture of non-violence among their supporters and ensuring that the electoral process is conducted without any form of intimidation or coercion.

During the meeting, the IGP reacting to a trending video of an incident in Anyigba where it was alleged that some armed men attacked the residence of one of the key officials in one of the parties, charged the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to take over the case for thorough investigation in order to ascertain all parties concerned, their respective levels of involvement and to ensure justice by all means.

The Inspector General of Police reiterated that the Force is committed to impartiality and neutrality throughout the electoral process and will take decisive action against any person who engages in any form of misconduct or violence. He also charged candidates and their followers to embrace peace as the Police and other Security Agents would not spare anyone caught fomenting troubles during the electioneering process.

GUBER ELECTION: IGP VISITS BAYELSA, WARNS AGAINST ELECTORAL VIOLENCE

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, today Monday 6th November, 2023, visited Bayelsa State to engage stakeholders, Police Officers and other security agencies in preparation for the forthcoming guber election in Bayelsa State.

The IGP met with the governor of Bayelsa State, Sen Douye Diri at the Governor's Office in Yenegoa, where he promised the people of the state of a free, fair, secured, and credible election on 11th November, 2023. He equally urged the governor as a candidate in the election to charge his supporters to embrace peace in the state.

The IGP also met with the traditional rulers at the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers' Secretariat in Yenagoa. He seized the opportunity to discuss many security related issues with the traditional rulers and urged them to encourage Bayelsans to go out and exercise their franchise during the election, as the Police and other security agencies have emplaced adequate security for the smooth conduct of the election.

The IGP later addressed Officers and Men of the Command at the State Headquarters, where he tasked them to discharge their duties without fear or favour and act within the ambit of the law during the Saturday election. The IGP warned them to be good ambassadors of the NPF always, even in the aftermath of the November 11 guber polls.

IGP EGBETOKUN ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS AT OWERRI, ADDRESSES KEY ELECTION SECURITY CONCERNS

Urges all Parties to Embrace Sustainable Peace for Secure Elections

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Thursday 2nd November, 2023, convened a crucial meeting with political leaders and other relevant stakeholders at the Rockview Hotel, Owerri, to discuss vital election security-related matters. The meeting which encompassed issues related to police deployment, ensuring secured elections, and maintaining security for all citizens served as a veritable platform for the IGP to assure stakeholders of the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to creating a secured environment for all voters and participants in the electoral process.

The IGP emphasized that the officers deployed for electioneering processes have undergone rigorous training on election monitoring, guaranteeing robust security at polling units, and protecting the fundamental rights of all well-meaning members of the public as part of the NPF’s thrust in upholding democratic principles. The IGP urged all political parties to engage in constructive dialogue and embrace a peaceful atmosphere during the election period in order to foster a harmonious and peaceful environment for a credible and successful electoral process.

The Inspector General of Police underscored the importance of citizens having confidence in the NPF's professionalism, impartiality and its commitment to non-interference in the electoral process as the primary objective of the police is to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the elections. Stakeholders were assured that security for all citizens is a top priority and that police will work diligently to maintain peace and safeguard the electoral process from any disruptions.

The Meeting had in attendance the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly; Chief Mike Okiro (IGP Rtd.); Chairmen of Eight Political Parties; Traditional Rulers led by His Royal Majesty Eze Dr. EC Okeke, CFR, the Eze-Imo of Imo State; Imo State Resident Electoral Commission; religious leaders; Heads of Security Agencies in Imo State; members of the Civil Society; Youths and Student Groups.

In the same vein, the IGP issued a stern warning to individuals and groups who may contemplate disrupting the elections noting that officers deployed have been charged to take decisive action against anyone found engaging in unlawful activities that undermine the integrity of the electoral process. He also reiterated warnings against the use of VIP escorts, sirens, and illegal movements on election day.

As IGP Warns Against Unruly Acts

In a bid to have smooth electioneering processes in the forthcoming off cycle Gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States scheduled for 11th November, 2023, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, has ordered the distribution of additional 220 operational vehicles, including water canons, Armored Personnel Carriers, helmets, bullet proof vests, tear gas canisters etc, to the 3 affected states to intensify security arrangements for the elections.

Earlier, the IGP had organised trainings for the police officers who are involved in the election security management for the forthcoming elections and sought the approval of the Federal Government for the payment of their allowances and other necessary support to boost the morale of the officers during the operations.

The IGP therefore urges all stakeholders in the 3 states to embrace peace, uphold the sanctity of the rule of law and be law-abiding in their endeavours before, during and after the elections as the Police and other security agencies have been placed on alert to avert any unruly acts capable of disrupting the elections in any of the states.

Security personnels has stayed away from election malpractices but INEC officials have been messing up Nigeria elections to allow rigging for a particular candidate.

I salute Nigeria police since d past 12years concerning elections in Nigeria.
