Was its duty reported underpaid or not paid?

Not sure they can seize it if it was bought brand new in Nigeria.

Why didn't you request for the xuatom duties from the previous owner before purchasing it? Well, you can do yourseld a favor and involve the police in retrieving the papers from the previous owner...
Good luck

@victorr24.

The point is if a back yard duty was paid on the car . The car is gone for good .

Backyard duty means nothing was paid to the federal government hence the seizure.

The best you could do is to see the CAC at FOU and let them see reason that duty was actually paid , even if it's not required duty you ought to have paid .
Because if you don't act on time they will confiscate it and sell it to highest bidder or you finalize to make them list it for you to repurchase your car .

Moral of the story . Always ensure you get valuation done yourself and avoid short cut , pay the duty yourself then you are good to go

Since he said it was not paid, then custom paper was forged for it.

Not a direct answer to your question but to you and anyone else who comes across this issue in the future, this video addresses the question, do the Nigerian Customs have the power to seize cars or not?

Ignorance they say is no excuse before the law.

What exactly do you need help for? You've deliberately refused to provide answers or more information. Besides, you knew that the car had no papers prior to purchase - you should have done the needful on the road instead of coming here to cry wolf!

There are times due diligence need to be properly before you buy things or to get things done.

And there certain people who will want to cash in on what you dont really know about , hence one's being caught up in a minefield.

If you one is to clear cars or goods out of the port .
One has to bear in mind the pros and cons obtainable from appropriate quarters not to fall prey to unscrupulous elements.

That is the more reason one has to clear the air for prospecting importers the route you are taking to avoid unnecessary trouble .

A case in point is where by an importer pays a surface duty of 250k instead of 300k and the template of the customs has pegged it to be 300 definitely there will be problem of underpayment by the importer/agent . So , the best is to carry your importer alomg that this is the issue to avoid unnecessary problem.
