The government doesn't want Nigerians to be productive. The more people get productive, the more people would climb out of poverty, the lesser people they would be to control. They still need to share rice and win votes and that's why anything to defeat poverty would always be crushed.

You have a very valid point

Restructure the country and see the progress you desire. Running a sharing economy is counterproductive!

I did not invent our GDP per capita which is less than 2000 dollars and on that basis, 30k per month, is perhaps the best the government can muster.

I insist we are unimaginative hence the low GDP per capita. I'm not a solving government of a lack of imagination but as I often say, you cannot get apples from a maize farm.

I tell you, we have so much raw materials to create various things the world would desire but do we?

We talk of power supply but have we found a local solution to the problem?

If we haven't, its because we aren't thinking.

I would continue to beat this drum - produce or perish.

The world is at a standstill because
1. It's a new virus
2. Poor response time
3. No vaccines or cure
4. Pure and sheer panic

Incase you've not been reading the news all the countries you mentioned didn't take it serious when they should, including here in the US where I live. As at Monday some schools were still open. The UK wanted it to spread and thin out naturally. Trump said the hot weather will stop it.

Is your head buried in the sand like the ostrich or are you just interested in blind arguments not based on facts?

Plus, that you have never come across a word, phrase or adjective does not imply it's none existence. Up your game, go back to school oga
So being very easily transmissible isn't one of the reasons the world is on standstill?
Italy were the first to fully ban flights from China, even faster than even the US. Is that not being serious enough? How come Corona wan finish Italy even more than the China wey originate am? Abi na because they didn't learn from the way PDP "singlehandedly" tackled Ebola? grin

Spare me that.

What percentage of the population are achievers?

Haven't you heard about 14 Nigerians arrested for fraud in the USA, just this week? That is not wholly representative of us, neither are these hardworking people you are referring to.

Yes, we are capable of learning but learning isn't invention, neither is it productivity.

Productivity is desire and application, what you find the Indians doing.

We as a nation are unproductive and I can't reiterate this enough.

We need to realise this.

Quickly.
50% percent of nigerians are under 18 years dat is 100 million meaning they are children nd nigerian americans are d most educated ethnic groups in the us although u ar may be a little right but d number people writing per year is increasing almost 2 million dis year meaning more people are goin to be in the university nd hav degrees if not of d poor government d people will be very productive

The populace is unimaginative, uneducated and highly unproductive.

This is the stark reality.

Take out this leader, bring in a new set, the situation would be the same until the people realise they aren't actually inventive.
My friend will you stop typing rubbish? So many intelligent and talented Nigerians are fleeing the country on daily basis due to the failure of our governments to provide basic necessities for its citizens. If given a choice to study in America, or Nigeria i believe 99 percent(yourself included) will choose the former without even blinking blinking their eyes. Is it not the duty of the government to create an enabling environment for its citizens? There is no power, security, no road, corruption is the order of the day. Appointments are not being made on merits but base on who you know. Millions of naira are being budgeted to feed few elites. And millions of masses has nothing to eat.
Imagine a whole Aso rock and NASS still budgeting for fuel to power its generators. They cant even generate their own electricity. What is the hope of the common man then for that same electricity? Please think with your head, not your anus.

Subsidies would go this year.

The subsidies would go because a local alternative to imports, in the form of the Dangote refinery would come on stream. Of course, this may have to be reviewed based on how Covid-19 affects its take off.

I don't know how to communicate this, but as someone who travels quite a lot, the one thing I ask myself in every society i find myself is "why are these people so successful?" And I can only point to productivity as the reason.

We have cocoa but do not make chocolate.

We have hides and skin but we aren't known for leather works.

We must produce no matter the excuses.

I'm still following the thread up to page 7 and voltron his yet to reply to your post. Its easier to call Nigerians lazy and unproductive but he bolted away when questions with reality on ground hit him.

A trip to Apapa wharf/ Tin can in Lagos will give him a clue one of the obstacles Nigerians are facing. The traffic couple with bad road will reset someone brain.

Many potential untaped yet he's blaming Nigerians. Nothing on merit again but on who you know. Let me stop here for now.

@ Voltron,
I don't seem to understand why u heap the blames on populace and leave out the leadership. It doesn't make sense. U called the popuplace highly uneducated, unimaginative, unproductive and expecting to live like Jayz. Where do u get that from?
same populace that agitated for and govt eventually agreed to pay minimum monthly pay of 30k( less that 100 dollars) How do they expect to live like Jayz with that??
How many of these 200m populace does govt cater for in terms of social welfare as done in the countries with 'productive' populace? and yet how many of these populace do u personally feed daily since they are unproductive and most likely poor without food? The answer to the 2 questions if not zero, is infinitesimal compared to the country's population. And yet, these unproductive poor people eat everyday, clothe and strive to send their kids to school and all that. How do they do manage these while being highly unimaginative and unproductive?
A drive around town will show u myriads of informal enterprises being undertaken by these 'highly unimaginative' populace to keep body and soul together.
They do what they can given the environment they are faced with. A country of 200m still grappling with 3k megawatts of electricity does not support production anywhere in the world. It's not the popuplace's duty to provide electricity. Heap the blames to the right quarters.

Nigerians generate an average of 2000 dollars annually.

What miracle are you expecting?

A man produces only 2 thousand dollars of wealth annually but believes he should be living like Jay-Z.

Get real.

Nigeria generates 20k $ annually? Is this a mistake or sign of dumbness?

Let me tell you something.

When Abacha was president, Nigeria was under a choke hold, there was no electricity just like today but that was the period in which the Nigerian home video industry (Nollywood) became an African brand.

What of the Afro music that has gone global today, when did it germinate?
Same time as when Abacha was in power.

That is the kind of creativity we need in all spheres.

Today, we are talking of Coronavirus, how many protective Hazmat suits are being built in Nigeria?

How many masks are being built?

How many of the clothes in your closet are made in Nigeria?

Honestly, we lack productivity and it stems with the populace.
true but you can't absolve the govt of blame too it stems from our educational system too how many unis in Nigeria engage in research, infrastructure is poor too and the fast lane to wealth which a lot of our young ones have resolved to is because our society values wealth irrespective of means than anything else.

wheres the light where’s the road where’s government support. You keep mentioning China, meanwhile Chinese government including their leader doesn’t drive around in a Mercedes, he uses made in China cars. You will never find foreign cars in the US government fleet. That’s leadership by example.

You can’t import cars into the US unless u have at least an assembly plant in the country + incentives for doing so.

When the government doesn’t patronise made in Nigeria how will there be policies to encourage patronage for made in Nigeria goods.

With governments useless policies it’s actually cheaper to import some commodities and sell than to manufacture here and sell. Yet you want people to waste their hard earned savings investing in what will die a premature death.

The question many have reverbrated here still remains unanswered @voltron. Sure there is no doubt majority of Nigerians are not rising to the occasion, this is true. But to say that Nigerians are inherently unimaginative and unproductive, just take that back in totality. The environment is the root cause, whether you choose to see it that way or not. I have a relative who speaks just as you have. And that is why it pissed me off. Cos this dude is privileged to work with an IOC he somehow believes just as you do that our pple are unimaginative and unproductive, yet he failed in four attempts at creating even a mini business enterprise. Please fix culpability where culpability is. The system is practically built to work against the average person and you are talking like this, like all these struggles everyone can see/feel are not real. I GO WAN SEE AS FRESHWATER FISH GO FLOURISH INSIDE SALTWATER NA.
