Coronavirus: Buhari Has Not Demonstrated Enough Capacity – Adegboruwa by iwaeda(op): 5:44pm On Mar 22, 2020
Lagos – President Muhammadu Buhari acted too late in taking proactive steps towards containing the Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) , Ebun- Olu Adegboruwa has said.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent,  Adegboruwa who described the situation as a pathetic one said the Presidency has not demonstrated sufficient capacity in handling the situation compared to other nations.

Though he commended President Buhari for setting up a committee to access the impact of the coronavirus epidemic on Nigeria’s 2020 budget and the economy in general,  the senior lawyer said Nigeria should have shut its borders immediately the World Health Organisation (WHO) described it as a global pandemic.

“I think that it is clear to all of us that we have a very pathetic situation at hand which requires active responses to be able to curtail it. I believe that in Nigeria in particular, the Executive has not demonstrated sufficient capacity when we compare the actions and responses of the other nations.

“Immediately the pandemic was acknowledged by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Nigeria should have shut its borders because all the cases that have been identified so far are people who have travelling from other nations into Nigeria in the past one week or thereabout”.

Adegboruwa who said there is a need for President Buhari to brief Nigerians on urgent steps taken so far to contain the virus also said there is a need to know the plans by the government to cushion the effects of workers who are told to stay at home.

According to him, even though the President recently created the President created a Ministry called the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, not much has happened in the Ministry since the social intervention programmes were removed from the office of Vice- President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

“So, I believe the President acted too late. He has not demonstrated enough capacity to contain this situation. He is not addressing us; he is not telling us the measures that he is taking.  You cannot just ask people to go and stay at home, especially the ones who rely on daily means of livelihoods to survive”.

“Also, the measures that are taken to cushion the effects of the consequence of staying at home without going to work or earning a living”.

“Recently, the President created a Ministry called the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development when he removed all social interventionist programmes from the office of the Vice- President. Nothing has happened in that Ministry since that day”.

“I believe that the President could do more to show us some kind of leadership by example. But to the extent that he has set up a committee to work with state governors in respect of Coronavirus, I must commend him in that regard. But I think he acted too late” he said.

But he has never demonstrated any capacity in anything yet you SW people went to support him for second term ..By now we should all learnt the not to expect anything useful from Buhari , as far as I am concerned with this Corona crisis Sanwoolu is the President and the gentleman commissioner of health Lagos State is our Minister of health ,they have both done well and taken the initiative not to wait for no show Buhari and ramp up some Sterling leadership that got the whole of Nigeria looking up to them now .

There are somethings Buhari does and you just have to believe he is just a figure head.
Like the real Buhari is dead or something.
Quite disappointing.

Why is it that some Nigerians see and read all about government actions, advisories, medical updates and guidelines every day and several times a day, but some still lie boldface that the government is not telling us anything and there are no measures in place.

Who is issuing orders to close airports, to close government institutions, who is advising you every day per how to stay safe, what to do to prevent infections, who is dishing our funds to fight the infections, who is running and funding the NCDC that's fighting this virus, isolating, testing and treating people, who is running and manning the airports without brave men and women screening and protecting this loudmouth?

Is it the government's fault that they don't listen to the news or pay attention to current affairs?

Nemo dat quod non habet

You can't give what you don't have.

Buhari who fails to show capacity in managing his immediate family is the same man you're expecting to lead Nigeria?

Buhari knows some truths
He knows there's no need to panic
But he shouldve openly say it

The world is gradually changing

Enjoy the last days of your freedom

As you can see , it's illegal to go to church or mosques

What you're witnessing is the beginning of the end

You'll know what's up before the year runs out
