Every one of them is doing it for his own pocket.Innoson is not going to do it for free.

Both Dangote and Otedola have also helped govt one way or the other even very much more than Innoson.Everyone of them should be commended.

Otedola gave 5 billion naira to the poverty and calamity stricken NE.

Dangote happens to be one of the biggest philanthropists in the world.

Yes,we all know. Kudos to Innoson and others helping to create solutions. My bit is those things he is talking about are produced elsewhere but will be assembled in Nigeria but he always leaves room for some half illiterates to argue that these things are produced in Nigeria when we all know that we do not have power and amenities to do this.I still think he is going places with his ideas.

Bros, this is my area. I repeat, ventilators aren't motor vehicles. A lot of technology is involved. A device that must behave like human beings and be well interactive. A baby babylog from dragger alone costs 14m naira and it's no more in production. VN5000 which is now a replacement is over 16m naira and if you want accessories for all patient categories ( neonates, paediatrics and adults) you would spend nearly 20m naira to get one. A ventilator is meant to last up to 10 years. I like innoson for his innovative automobile ideas. He should just continue with that.

On a research and development alone, companies manufacturing ventilators spend billions every year. It takes away a huge portion of their profit because nothing most go wrong. It's no child's play.
Bros, your field and you don't know their are manual ventilators or you don't know FG can partner with any Chinese, US, or German firm to avail innoson of the app via online download while he produces the hardware?

Bros if Govt is serious, IVM and any other engineering company can produce this with the right formulas.

Lol, R & D? Bros there are already made ventilators everywhere. Is the technology of a modern car less than that of a ventilator?
Did IVM attend school or certifications for many years to gain expertise to produce his cars?
Oga, with the right cash and partnership FG can make it happen

What Is The Difference Between A “Respirator” And A “Ventilator”?

by John Kelly, Senior Research Editor at Dictionary.com

During the coronavirus break, you may have heard that hospital and healthcare providers have faced a shortage of respirators and ventilators, two critical tools in fighting the infection.

Now, many of us know that both respirators and ventilators deal with breathing in some way, but may be confused about the difference between them. Are they both just face masks? Are respirators and ventilators synonyms? Can they be used interchangeably?

Medical terminology can be confusing and overwhelming, and using the terms properly is overwhelming, and using the terms properly is important in a time of crisis. So, let’s get to the bottom of these terms for two life-saving tools.
More

What is a respirator?

A respirator is a masklike device, usually of gauze, worn over the mouth, or nose and mouth, to prevent the inhalation of noxious substances or the like. Health professionals wear respirators to filter out virus particles as they breathe in so they don’t get infected with COVID-19 while helping people and patients.

The CDC specifically recommends health professionals using what are called N95 respirators. This type of respirator fits more tightly around the nose and mouth than regular medical or surgical masks. Another type of respirator is known as PAPR, short for powered air-purifying respirators, which covers the whole head and uses a blower to filter air.

Respirators are a form of PPE, which stands for personal protective equipment.
More

What is a ventilator?

In medical contexts, a ventilator is a machine that helps a patient breathe. This machine pumps oxygen into the lungs and removes carbon dioxide through a tube. The insertion of this tube into a person’s windpipe (trachea) is called intubation.

The verb ventilate can refer to oxygenating the blood (i.e., supplying it with oxygen) or helping someone breathing using a mechanical ventilator.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, and it can cause lung inflammation (pneumonia), which makes breathing difficulty for patients. That’s why ventilators are needed to help treat some patients with the infection.
More

What is the cost of Ventilator ?

A hospital-grade ventilator is a costly machine -- running between $25,000 and $50,000 each -- that helps patients breathe when they can’t perform that function on their own. Because the coronavirus, in extreme cases, can cause breathing difficulties, these machines are vital to saving lives during the pandemic.
Re: COVID-19: Innoson Ready To Produce Ventilators & Medical Equipment by EQUALROGHT: 8:45am On Mar 25, 2020
Why local production of ventilators?

In the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronaviruspandemic, doctors made life-or-death decisions last month when 1,000 people needed ventilators to support their breathing, but only 600 were available.

In Iran, where numerous high-level officials have been infected, doctors sought unsuccessfully to get the international community to lift sanctions so they could purchase more lifesaving machines.

And in northern Italy, doctors took the painful step last week of issuing guidelines for rationing ventilators and other essential medical equipment, prioritizing treatment for the young and others with the best chance of survival.

Such tough choices could well be ahead for the Nigeria a nation with limited hospital capacity and grim epidemiological projections estimating that as many as 1 to 2 percent of the country’s population of 200 million could eventually become infected.Hence local production becomes imperative ,will FG patronize local production of ventilators with international specification and standard ,since there is shortage of ventilators all over the globe, future shall tell.

Companies Retool Operations to Assist in Corona virus Fight.

In france perfume company has retooled to start production of sanitizer and Blue Jean company retooled to a medical equipment firm and also Ford ,3M and GE in USA teamed up and started production of ventilators and respirators , all in a bid to fight covid 19 to finish .Also in Nigeria all hands must be on deck including Industries, resarch institute's like universities etc ,should help and stem the tide .

It's not enough to tell me I dont know my job and you do not need to copy and paste links for me to understand what you said. I'm well trained on ventilation across EU and USA and this is what I do for a living for nearly 15 years now. I'm not in doubt that there cheaper ventilators. Now, let me educate you on this...

There are different types of a ventilator viz:

Mechanical Ventilator

Emergency Transport Ventilator

Electronic Ventilator

Under a mechanical ventilator we have the pneumatic ones which is purely driven by gas. an example is the old Newport this ventilator could cost as low as 2m naira

An emergency transport Ventilator doesn't cost much as well but with limited modes, to manage a patient in a critical state to from one hospital to another or from home to the hospital for further care.

Electronic ventilators are more robust and essential for the ICU ( intensive care unit) and HDU( high efficiency unit or critical care unit). This is the type of a ventilator needed in the current situation. Maybe innoson was referring to the first one which was the pneumatic ventilator. This is just for mild cases and not for critical ones which is needed in this case. The ventilation modes of an electronic ventilators are SIMV, BIPAP, IMV, PC, VC, T1,T2,DUOPAP,CPAP, Nebulizer, Etco2( Etco2 module alone costs over 2m naira). This is the type of ventilator we are talking about. For innoson to dabble into production of this, he would have to probably close down the automobile business because it's highly capital intensive. Go and find out the ventilatirs manufacturers' worth ( like GE, Stephan, Phillip, Dragger, Maquet, etc) they are worth billions of dollars.

On the R and D, every manufacturer has their unique products and technology. They also have their unique selling points. Some ventilators come with an integrated respiratory humidifiers while some are stand alone. They go on research yearly to ensure they stand tall as the market is competitive. Additionally, they try to ensure they do not copy themselves to avoid litigation. They do not remain in same locations. They meet with university professors to share patients' conditions with them which could help them modify their products better to ensure efficiency of their devices. All these cost a lot of money. As sensitive as ventilators are, chinese government do not use any ventilator made by their people rather, they go to europe and america to buy. It's in recent times they were e trying to adopt mindray.

I'm basically saying Innoson dont need to wait for FG/SG to make an order before starting out....there are plenty of customers globally if they can actually manufacture ventilators... They should concentrate on making medical devices

Also wondering why nigerian breweries etc are not making hand sanitizers considering theyve got the active ingredients - Guiness flavoured hand sanitizers
