Please during speaking (EO) can one be looking at his/her paper where points have been noted and speak from it or you have to speak looking/focusing on the examiner.

I would say be ready to do it without. Our experiences have been varied. Some have been given a few minutes to make meaningful notes, others haven't. Worst case, be prepared to have a few points in your head. See here some EO samples posted by Njbybrthnly, you should memorize questions that can apply across a variety of topics for part A of EO. When does it open/start? How much will it cost? Are children allowed? etc

https://www.nairaland.com/4672912/all-tef-candidates-canada-immigration/5#72184669

For part B, you will give a synopsis of the subject before you and subsequently your comments will depend on what the examiner says to you. However, you can already be armed with a few come-back lines. See here

Read this thread thoroughly is my counsel. All these and more have been covered.

Hello everyone.

Please I'm interested in the services of a home tutor or a flexible learning centre with evening classes. Can anyone recommend someone in Port Harcourt? I currently work 8-5 so I won't be able to attend classes at AF as its quite far from me and their weekend classes are not favourable. I would like to start asap. So any suggestions or recommendations are welcome. Thank you.

Please @mamaroon, I noticed the Tef 250 doesn’t come with answers, please how did you cross check your answers when you prepared for the exam using the book?

Answers are in the 4th document in the TEF 250 folder (the 8th folder in the google drive from Njbybrthnly's post on study materials, also on page 1 of this thread). It is a 22 page doc.

Mamaroon. I just want to say thank you for your commitment to this for others and your graciousness. I've read down from page 1. And all the TEF veterans, etrange, njrbybrthnly, ayandee, fabguen, and all others that have put in plenty work here. Also would not mind a suggestion of an effective online tutor. Thanks.

I think you need to be very specific about online tutors and exactly what you need from them.

My personal opinion is that all the resources you need to pass TEF if you are an intermediary level are already on this thread. Just read the comments and associated links.

To learn the language from scratch, please see discussion just this week from our friends on this topic.

amaya21:
I no longer need French for my scores but I am continuing regardless. I also use italki and I like that they have a wide range of teachers as well as teaching styles. Those who are interested may have to try a few to find the ones that fit their learning style.

Vincad:
The thread is back, thank God.

@ciwi, I know a guy who used italki. He's on YouTube, I actually found him when I searched for "Learn French in six months" on YT. He was able to get to do it in six months, and watching his video was what gave me confidence.

His name is Ikenna, you can check him out. He also dropped the link to the italki tutor he used. I personally think italki is a really good option, lots of native speakers to choose from.

Fabguen:

Check out iTalki if you need to consider more online providers before you take a decision.

Thanks mamaroon, i would say am a little above intermediate. I have already concluded level b2 in Alliance Francaise and i wrote delf b1 in December and had very good scores. I would have written delf b2 tomorrow if not for covid-19. I would be writing the TEF exam in may hopefully. What i really need is someone who can help me with correcting my writing practice and someone to practice speaking with. Thanks.

For speaking practice, I hear iTalki is good as you can choose from a range of people. Did you check out the post by Njbybrthnly with examples of Part A of EO?

Writing corrections...I guess that could work with the same tutor too. If you like, you can share your writing here on NL (post as photo, don't type in French or you may be banned by the bot)....I'm sure people will be glad to comment/advise (etrange, ayandee, fabguen, danmisla dem dem). Have you checked out the Ayboye's post on writing?

Disclaimer: my own comments will be mostly centred on general structure.....grammar has never been my forte.

You can also self-critique by evaluating with the examples on Prepmyfutur.

I'm very much a beginner so I need help in all the aspects. So I would like intensive lessons.
Already started with Michel Thomas foundation CDs as suggested earlier up on the thread but I think I may need more help.

Try iTalki
Try Duolingo
Try http://www.coursera.org/learn/etudier-en-france

I think once the lockdown is over, a physical class may be the best bet for an absolute beginner. #MyOpinion

In the meantime, you'll be surprised how far diligent study of whatever resources are at your disposal (CDs you are already using, stuff in Njbybrthnly's resources post) will take you.

Hi there!

Welcome to the thread ma'am.

Going by your level, what you mostly need now is an aggressive immersion to the language. So in addition to mamaroon's tips, I also suggest you surround yourself with as much French speakers as possible; this will help normalise the language as a real-life means of communication instead of some bunch of classroom/academic grammar rules that must be remembered and poured out in the exam hall. This could be in form of chat pals over the net (this is even better given the Covid-19 induced home arrest now). From personal experience, constantly speaking French or writing in French before any French exam goes a long to ease the pressure and make one less panicky about the exam; hope this also works for you. YouTube also has a lot of videos to boost your listening skills. Now, Whatsapp chatting is a bit different from structured essay writing so I'd suggest you do just as mamroon has said, bring your essays here (don't type directly) and let's the do the two-heads-are-better-than-one thing.

Best of luck!

Hello friends.
Please o how do I begin to learn French. I am a total beginner. I will appreciate a honest guide on how to begin so that I can write the TEF exam.
Please as a complete beginner how long is it likely going to take me to study before I can get a decent result ?
I am in Abuja, I will be glad if anyone can suggest a good study centre..
Thanks.

I am a beginner too, in my third week of personal study.

I do at least 3 hours a day learning the grammar structure, and vocabularies.
I find "Learn French with Alexa" to be good, her technique of teaching helps me understand the language rules.
I also use memrise.com, and duolingo.

With the grammar and vocabularies, I now try to structure sentences. Hopefully soon I can do a paragraph.

I listen to songs while looking at the lyrics to identify the few words I know, and also look at Twitter updates in French.

Where I feel I need an explanation, I reach out to my French speaking friend to guide.

I will enroll for classes at Alliance français when everything goes back to normal hopefully.
You can start with personal study.
