Buhari Approves ₦15 Billion Intervention Funds, Releases Aircraft To NCDC by Lanrelagboi: 10:02pm On Mar 26, 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved and ensured the prompt release of N5billion special intervention fund requested by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to equip and expand their facilities and laboratories. President Buhari, in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Garba Shehu, also announced the approval of the sum of N10billion, which release was effected within two days, after the request by the Lagos State Government for financial support to combat and contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Lagos and Nigeria. The President, who also gave approval to NCDC’s request for an aircraft from the Presidential Air Fleet for emergency situations, had authorized the evacuation of three critical members of the NCDC team who were stuck in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo where they went for a training organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

These measures are in addition to the ones approved and announced by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) including the closure of land borders to human traffic for four weeks; the conversion of all Hajj transit camps to be utilized as COVID-19 isolation centers; the directive that all non-essential government employees to work from home and for a daily briefing of the nation through the PTF. Other approved measures already put into place include the ban of flights from and into the country, suspension of the Federal Executive Council and National Council of State meetings and a directive for engagements, at the highest levels between the Federal Government and the state governments.

President Buhari has also directed for the escalation of the nation’s capacity for testing and detection with the acquisition of testing kits and establishment of additional test centers; acquisition of Personnel Protection Equipment and the mobilization of experts and trained staff serving and recall of some of those retired. The closure of schools and tertiary institutions and the suspension of religious and other gatherings above the fifty prescribed number were also parts of the measures put in place. The President, who said he was keeping a close eye on international developments on the spread of COVID-19, promised to intensify or introduce new measures if they become necessary to protect Nigerians. “With developing news around the world and in Nigeria on the Coronavirus pandemic, President Buhari issues the following statement: “I advise all Nigerians to follow to the letter the health guidelines issued by the Federal Ministry of Health and our State Governments. “Wash your hands thoroughly many times throughout the day. Observe ‘social distancing’ of a minimum of two metres. Do not make unnecessary journeys outside of your homes. Do not attend public meetings or public gatherings – including religious events – which is where, through social contact, the virus can easily be transmitted. “The Federal Ministry of Health will continue to issue daily updates on all developments. Please refer to public announcements by the Ministry on radio, television, www.health.gov.ng and Twitter at @Fmohnigeria,” the statement read.

Politicians go to extraordinary lengths when their life/ loved ones is threatened. Does anyone think they would have taken the same drastic action if only the populace was threatened?

Las Las some one will loot the funds.

You can spend a trillion naira on a flawed strategy and achieve woeful results. We all know how this will play out. Contracts being assigned, superficial publicity on the work done and the usual bureaucracy.

Totally lock down the country for a sufficient number of weeks pls. Your kits won't probably get to the slums in the north, West or Niger Delta so....

After how many days? This Corona virus will reveal many things about this government especially at the time the president Abba Kyari is sick and incapacitated. We all know Buhari is just a glorified president, and that's why nothing is working. So this is the right time for him to begin work on covid-19 when other countries of the world are more proactive and sensitive to the plight of their citizens. If the virus gets out of hands then they will know the silent of the citizens is not for play.

I almost find it hard to believe that a lacklustre Buhari government can be this decisive.

Thank you Corona for finding your way to Aso Rock to awaken the sleeping President who seem to be as clueless as his predecessor.

Your Excellency President Buhari call for a Nationwide Prayer and Fasting First. We need to Genuinely seek for GOD's Mercies as A Nation First before any other thing.

If we don't do this, all these Monies will be Total Waste of Time and Resources. Let's not End up using Basket to Fetch Water!

call for Selected GENUIE Servants of GOD in Nigeria to lead the Prayers ( we Have them).

If we can do this, then we can invest whatever Money we wanna invest and things will Work

Nigerians should as a matter of urgency reject the 200million Naira meagre donated by Aliko Dangote!! 200million is a peanut!

What Nigerians demand from Dangote is nothing less than $500million, Mike Adenuga is $150million, Leo Stan Ekeh, Cosmos Maduka, Tony Elumelu, Jim Ovia, Folorunsho Alakija, Tinubu and co must donate $50million and above because all the money they are parading were made from poor Nigerians. None of them worked hard to earn their so called wealth, most of them became super rich through Nigerian crude oil largese by former Presidents, FOREX/Tax waivers, government contracts and bias policies, milking Nigerians, looting Nigerians' commonwealth, and the only time they can give back to Nigerians is now!! angry

This money (NGN500,000 and above) must be paid directly to all Nigerians using their BVN database accessible by the CBN, if not Nigerians should not accept anything less!

Other countries are paying their citizens' utility bills, waiving interest rates on loans, waiving tax, stopping all home foreclosures and mortgages, but here the cunning, wicked, corrupt Nigerian government is telling Nigerians stories.....mapping out billions that will be re-looted by them and their cronies while deceiving the common Nigerians, Nigerians enough is enough, coronavirus has presented Nigerians a golden opportunity to demand good governance and accountability from the President, Governors, and all the rich Nigerians who looted Nigeria dry and became rich through Nigeria's crude oil, if not na wahala them de find as I see national unrest and harsh economy situation looming, anarchy is lurking around Nigeria!! angry angry
