Things done change

I secretly applied to be a driver 3 and half years ago unsuccessfully.i had lost my initial investment but left with an uncompleted building but today, I own a lot of top-notch properties, cars and businesses when i made a bold call to my own angel.. I learnt that travelling abroad is not for everyone. Let God guide you to your own green pastures. When you are where God wants you to be, you'll flourish. I travelled to Dubai to seek greener pastures but cane back with almost nothing. But while there, I realized that I had (and still have) an excellent customer-relations skills. I can sell anything if only I put my mind. I came back home in 2018. And here I am today. By God's grace, I have my own business running, earning serious money and still having time to rest unlike what I faced in Dubai.

I return all the glory to God because it wasn't my power.

My father admonished me at the age 10 due to poverty to started carrying load for people in the market with basket during the weekend as I was too young to push wheelbarrow. From the money made I have to save in piggy bank so I can buy books for my elementary education. I worked as labourer in building sites carrying blocks while sleeping in hospital where my father died years back. I ran out of technical college since no school fees and worked in a hotel as cleaner, room boy, assistant bar boy & kitchen assistant just in less than 6 months . I returned back to school when I have saved some money to buy my books. My senior sister staying in Lagos through her husband picked me up and since then my life never the same. Now working many years in oil industry. Have cars, houses, my children now in Universities. And by God's grace am healthy and still working. While thanking God & supporting mankind. My pain is that my father never lived to see me & his grown grand children today. That's my true life story.

After I saw how my dad suffered to raise the two of us I and my sibling till the company he was working with went down. We started living from one aunt house to uncles houses. I have been thrown out on four occasions, accused of stealing on many occasions, starved by family, disowned by my own mother who is in the abroad sending monies to different people in Nigeria and disregarding her son because I looked like my father. At 21 I moved to ibadan, stayed with a friend, dumped by my gf, Hustled to get my cert, did my Nysc, hustled more, bought a land at ibadan, bought my first car, bought another car, moved down to Lagos, rented a apartment.

Now I have a unisex salon, a boutique, a car listed on Bolt, and Presently working on roofing my project.

It’s not been easy. Not all women are mothers.

My mother was everything put together, though my father was alive, while I was growing, but he was never there for us. I never knew we were poor because everybody around us was the same. Easting rice was not commonplace in our house, at least we eat rice four times a year. Despite doing well in my academic work, I couldn't move passed ND. Whatever I was doing, I believed I could do better, I once applied to a job that required a bachelor degree, and I was picked ahead of those with a bachelor degree. I procured a fake bachelor degree, and I went through several stages of both written and oral interviews and eventually got the job. One guy who knew I had only ND, threatened to expose me when he couldn’t go beyond the second stage of the interview. I begged him and I was settling him regularly. But I knew that would not last forever, I safe and used the opportunity the job offered and moved to the US. Am not rich now, but I know I have escaped the poverty shackles. I am currently working on my PhD

Before you can do a PhD, you would have to finish a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, right!
And you did both in America, where they teach using the English Language, right?

I am not yet out of poverty physically, but mentally I am liberated and my story is about to change for Good.

I was born into an extremely poor family. Seven of us including my parents lived in a one-room face-me-and-slap-me apartment in the most wretched slum in Lagos.

I remember I did all manner of odd jobs to survive. I awked different food items like fufu, eba, fried yam, Eko, kerosene etc. The only job I grew up knowing my father with was Okada riding. Many a time he would have an accidents that require money, mum would be crying and run around to burrow for his medical bills while I would be helpless. Life was always from one debts to another

When I wanted to write Waec and Neco exams, there was no money to register, my dad took me and we started begging for money from his friends to another. Someone finally gave us the money and I wrote the exams successfully.

After high school, a friend of mine called me to teach Physics in a secondary school 'cos I was very good in the subject. I went for Interview with other four candidates who are ND holders and graduates. I was asked to teach SS3 and I did. To my amazement the students preferred me and the principal employed me. He asked for my certificates, told him I just finished high school the previous year, he was dumbfounded and told me not to ever tell the students I was a university graduates. My pay was just 6k per month. I worked there for about a year and left when the school began to owe.


One day, a cousin of mine dropped by at our house and asked if I could work as a sales boy, With enthusiasm I said "yes". He, without delay connected me to the owner of the Ethanol business I started working. My boss so much loved me for my honesty and most times left the business for me to run ideocyncratically. I made some money and started writing exams to get to university and supporting family at home.

Due to government policy at that time and my boss taking too much money out, the business was no longer lucrative and I was not making much anymore. I started spending all my saving to survive. Fortunately, I got admission to the university, but there was no money anymore to sponsor myself. Dad had to go borrow again and to repay with his Okada business.

Aside school fees, I could not afford to get an accommodation for my self and mum suggested I live with my cousin who already had a family. That was a big relief but I paid the price. I was practically used as a slave in that house. I was like a maid, anyway I did not complain since it did not affect my education. I took care of their kids, bathed them, cooked for them, did house chores and did everything a maid would do. All for me to be able to eat and lay my head in a place.

One day, my cousin asked me to always go to the site with him on Saturday to work rather than staying at home. I explained to him that I used my Saturday to study as I was aimig for first class that time. It did not go down well with him and he stopped giving me Transport fare to school. I had to adjust and only go to school twice a week, sometimes my colleagues would donate money for me to be able to attend class 'cos my place of abode was quite far from campus. Even though some of my friends wanted me to live with them, mum adviced me against it and I stuck living with my cousin for the duration I spent in school.

Inspite of all the challenges I faced in school, I graduated with the best result in my department, being the only person with CGPA close to first class. I was pained I could not make first class.

After graduation, life became harder as I could not secure a job. I got a laptop and a modem and started sending unsolicited jobs application after NYSC. It was as if all forces were working against me. I would get to the final interview and not hear from them again. I was so depressed and felt sick that I had to go to Luth for treatment. Life became harder at home and mum was always sad and crying. I was tempted to do something unlawful but my Bible trained conscience would not allow me.

Later, I got a job in a private school that paid about 48k monthly and gave accommodation. I was happy I would leave home and get something doing. However, the working environment was hell on earth. We were treated like prisoners. I endured working there for 2 years and saved some money to pursue a master's degree, thinking I would be able to get a better job with that. I was wrong!

During my master's programms I ventured into different kind of businesses including.. Mmm, crypto currencies, home lessons etc. Would have made a breakthrough in crypto but made a costly mistake that made me lose all my money.

After school I came back to Lagos to start hurting for jobs again. I did all I could to get jobs nothing was forthcoming. Then I met someone who base in the UK and we started talking about business. I came up with starting online tutoring since I love teaching. We worked on getting the website running and other parameters. We did this for a whole year tirelessly but we had setback and could not continue.

My depression level heightened and I almost giving up when I met this sweet lady from the US.

I was not born into poverty neither did I know what pauperism was until my dad divorced my mum to be with another woman with four children.

My mum was a full time house wife, maybe I should say she was a stay at home mum. My dad was the one working, he was a contractor and we never lacked anything until he sent us out of the house ( my mum and 4 children).

You can imagine a woman without a job taking care of four children I.e 3 boys and 1 girl. Thank God for some of my mother's friends and an uncle in the States who gave her money to start a beer parlour. It was the proceed from the joint that my mum was able to send us to school, pay for our one room face me, I box you room at Mokola Ibadan. It was not easy taking care of four children especially when they are male children (that is another story).

Beer parlour business was not a lucrative business particularly if it was not on a large scale. Many a times we found it difficult to sell a bottle of beer. We did not have much customers but God was kind to us. Sometimes also, we engaged in prayers to have customer so that there could be food on the table. But my mum was tenacious and focused that her children must go to school and that was exactly what happened.

To cut the long story short, I gained admission into the University and I graduated with one of the best results in my set. But I could not secure a job, That became a problem, i had thought that with my result i will secure a good job but all to no avail, yet my mum was dogged and supportive.

I had to go for master programme and during the course of the programne, i suffered a lot, no money to do my assignmen, no money to pay the school fee but I tarried on, shortly after concluding the programme, I secured a job and now, I have my own family, my own car and my own house and life becomes rosy, i give all glory to God.

Unfortunately, my mother who suffered and toiled did not live to enjoy the fruit of her labour and the man who abandoned us suddenly remembered that he had children somewhere. Lol. That is story for another day.

That's always the case. And some people wonder why mothers are celebrated almost in a monthly basis.

You could be right bro. Since we have hearing loss, we have fewer distractions by way of noise or music when barbing, so we focus all our visual attention towards a good haircut. I don't even play music in my salon despite the insistence of some of my clients because I see no reason to be playing music in my own shop when I myself can't hear it.

The music ain't just about you bro.

Your customers also earn a right to some satisfying entertainment.
It makes a lot of difference and widens The salon experience if they can hear and appreciate.

Time reached and I had different mindset and I had to start rubbing red palm oil as my cream since I can't think of buying cream. Dust & red small ants always glue to my body by then and I never knew why. At the age of 13, I passed common entrance and commenced secondary education in a community boys secondary school in a far away village. During school visits while other parents visits with assorted kinds of provisions my mother will trek from my village with garri & palm kernels to visit me in school. I worked as labourer in building sites carrying blocks while sleeping in hospital where my father died years back since I don't have any home to return to except my far away village. Any money my mother dashes me I will trek to nearby village market to buy rice, oil and salt and keep in my dormitory locker. In the evening hours sometimes I will sneak into bush in search of utu (special rare fruits in IBO land for monkeys but edible to humans) I will pluck, eat & eat to my satisfaction before returning back to dormitory. I cook my palm oil rice inside the bush with empty powder milk container found in school dust bins as pot with dry woods and carrying water along in bread water proof. I always use dry sand to rub on my injuries whenever I get wound on my foot believing it is my affordable medication and it heals me. I trek bare footed into nearby village visiting family believed to relates to my family in one way or the other in search of food. At age 16, I was admitted into Government Technical College where I stayed only one year and ran out of school to the village due to hunger and no school fees. My mother gave me her last money to travel to city to look for work since she cannot afford giving me school fees. Through paid agents I secured job in a hotel and worked as cleaner, room boy eating remaining foods from guests, assistant bar boy & later became kitchen assistant just in less than 6 months. I returned back to school when I have saved some money to buy my books and not even school fees. My newly married senior sister (first daughter) staying in Lagos through her husband picked me up and since then my life never the same. Now working many years since then in oil industry. Married with kids, Have multiple visa to USA for trainings, Visited NASA, Have cars, houses. My children now in Universities and by God's grace am healthy and still working at consultancy level in a multinational company. While thanking God & supporting mankind. My pain now is that my father. That MY FATHER never lived to see me now & his grown grand children today. My mother now is very aged & living with me presently, while that my senior sister is also aged and now visits. I am in my early 50s presently & this is my true story & testimony of my life.

See, in this journey of liberating yourself and family from the virus called poverty, you can apply several tactics, but don't ever venture into money ritual, robbery or anything diabolic, it backfires but you can play some smartness to help yourself.


If you are a lady you can liberate yourself through marriage to a guy doing well by packaging yourself well, its not a crime even though we try to condemn it.


Even if you are a guy you can also apply same tactics but don't target Nigerian ladies, target white ladies and be ready to compromise- don't go looking for sweet sixteen white girl to marry, nope, they will compound your problem and frustration, just close eye and go for the older, maybe obese white ladies who are doing well financially or who are citizens of their countries and marry so they can help you relocate out of Nigeria where you can start working and earning good income to improve your financial life.


Set a plan. Compromise where necessary and don't ever give up or confess negative. Believe me, you can achieve anything.


See, right from school I kept telling my friends I want to have a company and be a CEO and they will be laughing but this has always been my sole desire and even when I was unemployed, underemployed and in fact miserable, I kept imagining how it would be if I own a company, I kept fantasizing about it and kept thinking of ways to start a company.


I am not joking, the law of attraction works. Apply the law of attraction in your life and you will get your heart desires in life.


Even when things were difficult for me I never believed I would be poor. I kept laughing that how can I end up poor, that its not possible na. Sometimes I will be laughing while alone and its cos I was imagining myself being poor and my mind will tell me it cannot happen and I will start laughing.
