Charge For Transfer Of Domain by Scream(m): 8:12pm On Mar 27, 2020
I asked a web designer to design a website for me. From close to one year, they were building what they wanted to build and not what I wanted, claiming that the price we agreed was not enough for I wanted collecting about 70% of the money.

I got tired last December and asked for the cpanel, password and the email address they used in registering the domain or that they should transfer it to me. They acted like they didn't understand what I was saying until this year. They simply transferred cpanel and password.

Now the domain name is expired, they are asking me to pay them 10k to activate it and transfer. My friend, a web designer thinks that they are merely exploiting me.

How do I get this resolved without a fight?

Hello,

Search on whois and get the registrar details. Contact the registrar with evidence of your conversation with them.

They will look into it and provide feed back with recommendation.

Thank you

The registrar is the person asking me for 10k to transfer it to me. He's not willing to do the job, he said that he has washed his hands off the site. I have been asking them to transfer the account to me but it seems that they want to exploit me.

I was told that it will cost less to renew. But they claim they will pay whogohost to transfer it to me. Please confirm this position as I am starting from scratch after paying more than 150k.

Hello,

If the site is hosted by whogohost, is very easy to get them to deal with the client, because this is violation of customer service.

First send an email to support@whogohost.com and explain this to them, also if you have screenshot of chat you had with the developer. You should also attached this in the mail.

Their reply will determine your next of action.

Hope this helps.

Thank you

If you bought a domain from Godaddy for example.. And you want to move it/transfer it to another registrar, you will definitely pay before it can be done.

But if it is that you have your own Godaddy account to receive the domain.. Then it is free

A domain registrar is the company that manages the reservation of domain names. Your so called designer isn't the registrar but the company from where he or they bought your domain name.

You made a couple of mistakes from the start which can be excused if you don't or had no idea about domain name registration and web designs before now.

You might need to contact whogohost directly as an intending customer and ask how they can step in and assist.

That said, what kind of website did you ask your designer to put up that he charged you 150k for?

I charge up to that and more than that in most cases but I'm wondering why a N150k job isn't completed and the OP isn't bothered, plus their whole relationship seems to be soiled on top of that. Beats me.

Hello, ma'am. Happy Sunday!

The issue isn't strange but I'd appreciate if you could provide some info here:

1. What is the brand of your laptop?
2. What Windows version is installed on it?
3. How long has the laptop been in use?
4. Has the battery ever been changed or replaced?

Two and half years ago should still be within range for the battery to work well, in my opinion.

If your battery is not charging or the notebook does not indicate that the battery is charging, the most likely scenario is that the battery itself is operating correctly, but its power management software may have become corrupt. In order to correct the problem, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software by using the Device Manager.

To correct the 'error', you'll need to install and uninstall the ACPI Battery listing in your Windows. To do this, you'll need to:

1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
2. Expand the Batteries category.
3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .

WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.

4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes

5. Scan for hardware changes
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power.

6. You might need to restart your laptop after every change has been scanned.

Your laptop should now indicate that the battery is charging.

PS: You'll need to have your laptop connected to run the steps. You could use your phone's data via your mobile hotspot.

Lol! If it has gone up to 98% hut still says it isn't charging then it is obvious the steps I recommended should be followed.

It looks difficult but it isn't. You might want to start by typing 'Device Manager' in your Start Menu.

I wish I was closer to assist. Sorry cheesy

An Aside:

@Seun, not to denigrate your moderators in this forum but I strongly believe it would be nice to have a moderator that would be online and curb criminal activities in this section. We are witnessing the rise of scammers who are downloading nulled themes and selling them to unsuspecting Publishers, claiming they bought the themes, templates and scripts from their respective authors. Kindly look into this and move to help curb this.

Thank you for your response. I asked for a video site but there it was to have some features but it seemed that they were not willing to do it. They told me it will cost up to 500k to design, I told them I didn't have that kind of money, but they agreed to do it for 250k. Suddenly, they kept saying I was paying peanut, not ready to listen, I wanted to take it to another designer sometime last year, they refused to transfer acting like they didn't understand what I was saying. Suddenly, they gave me cpanel and password that they were through, the they contacted another developer and agreed because of my requirements and they agreed to pay those guys 500k...that the guys are through but I need to pay 500k before they upload it otherwise they cannot do anything. Both of them exited the whatapp chat group immediately.

Personally I feel they are being used by the devil but they are beginning to drag it further.

Sad stuff. I'm almost tempted to ask if you didn't request to see these guys' portfolio before you contracted them.

If there was an initial agreement and they are coming around to change it, then it implies they have never been professional enough.

For a video website, I can't help worry as to how they purchased a domain from a Nigerian company and possibly a host from a Nigerian service provider.

If they could backtrack on their promises, I would advise you forget everything with them and count it as lost. They have access to root files of the website and can easily harm the site before you could change its cPanel username and password.

If you can, let it go. You contracted incapable guys who thought they could do the job but thought to outsource it and came back because the money wasn't enough after outsourcing.

Plus, it seems they have nothing figured out yet and don't have anything to ready the site any minute. They might be doing all of these to get the money out before they can get started.

As per the domain name and all, if you can, forget everything and contract someone that is dynamic enough to assist you with a catchy domain name. At best, you'd pay additionally for branding but the job will be finalised in the end.

Always ask questions thoroughly before you hire web designers particularly. Most are demons with no ideas on how to complete the job.

Seriously can't say much nor fault either parties except I know the terms (which I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't exist).

Software (in this case web) development involves a series of stages and processes most of which most of us skip especially if it's for an individual or costs small.

Also don't understand why you're less bothered about money spent.

Nevertheless, kindly do get in touch via 09020325050 .

All I see here are nothing BUT PURE Scam. Can't even say the developer got overwhelmed with the project. It's just scam.

probably the little you're seeing is nothing but ready-made script of which they couldn't proceed further on.

At this stage, and for lack of some more information, would suggest you gather up whatever it is you can get from them and move on to another developer BUT this time implementing whatever you have learnt so as not to FALL a second time.

I call it SCAM because I have heard stories along such lines a number of times.

Issues is their Victim (Client) takes on their Aggression onto the new Developer they hire.

Firstly, Whoever you gave money to isn't a registrar. He or she only charged you but would approach a domain registrar to actually buy said domain.

As for starting the project all from beginning again, I suggest you get as much as you can get from them and get in touch with any developer to see what could be salvaged.

Hi! If your ACPI Compliant driver is missing, a possible solution is to download your machine's exact driver from the manufacturer's drivers' download repository.

While at it, be sure it is the official drivers' page of the manufacturer and select your PC model to be able to download the proper ACPI-COMPLIANT driver.

In the event that some hardwares are malfunctioning already, you should troubleshoot and use the recovery driver manager on your PC. HP has this feature.

Apologies for not responding in time. I have been away.

The service centre would probably be Lagos and its damn far from my location. That's why!

So there's no place where I can get a driver that could work for it?

I doubt, since it is a custom made device. Plus, fixing it yourself will most likely violate the scheme's rule, which could get you into trouble. Your best bet would be to have it sent to the service center.
