I was a fan of Web Development for decades now.. I finally study Computer Science and I got all the chance and motive I needed to be a developer...

Firstly I knew I couldn't do these alone.. So I search all around for an expert and mentor... I got one..
Then I started with HTML for a month
CSS for a month
JavaScript for 2weeks
Graphics design for 3weeks
PHP for months
Database for months..

Now I'm a certified FrontEnd Web Developer
And I'm proud of my Digital skills

I will advice if you wanna learn web Development

Try to always build from scratch
Much respect for your design sense

Omg! You are on the right track. design is everything. People are normally moved by what they see(UI) before they even engage your website's functionalities (UX).

As I programmer it is very necessary you get acquainted with graphic design tools.

Your learning curve is similar to mine.
Keep soaring.

Unlike this wretched disease infested brothel patronizer AKA ashawo man @ crownedrookie

Careful how you deal with that lifeless troll. Its expertise is in camouflaging to be something its not.
Its already been revealed to be a scammer and a cheap blackmailer. I refused to be recruited by the dirty thing, that's why its chasing me up and down nairaland looking for mentions. When push comes to shove it will certainly reveal it's unscrupulous nature.

Good one for a start! I am also following your thread on 'Common good programming practices in python'. I love your passion and please keep it up.
If I may suggest, also add a JavaScript library, eg React, to your stack. Also, you will appreciate the beauty of django when you start building dynamic websites... I know you will definitely get there.

I learn programming and web development when my job affords me some spare time.

My path to web development :
- Basic python language
- Django framework
- HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, some JavaScript and Jquery while learning django
- Did some projects
- Deployment on pythonanywhere
- Back to learning JavaScript and Jquery in detail.
- Next will be adding React and ReactNative to the stack by God's grace.

Love and passion have kept me on this path. My only regret though, is that I did not join the party much earlier. However, my goal is to build web applications that will be relevant in my field of public health practice.

One thing I will have to say about programming is that, when you are about to start learning programming, you will need to ask yourself some questions and also be sure of some things.
First, you need to ask yourself reason you wanna code or program, what are your agendas in coding?.
You need to ask your yourself the problems people are facing in the technical world, be it your place of work or anywhere else and the solution you can render through it.
Lastly, you need to have passion for coding and enjoy it while doing it and do not aim for the monetary gain for now cos it will demotivate you in the long run.
To be honest, coding can be very difficult and easy to learn but the choice depends on you. For me, I like coding every minutes and even at work, all my colleagues know me for that and it is paying off now because I have built a web app to solve one of the problems we are facing at work.
You have to keep looking for problems and how to solve them, that is the beauty of coding/programming and easiest way to fall in love with programming. My one cent tho.

How many years did it take from html to php?

Lordpeckxy:
HTML: Started with The sololearn app(very Indepth and interesting), Read lots of PDFs(Including HTML books for Professionals written by the people of stack overflow), used sites like JavatPoint.com to leverage my skills

CSS: Using more of the resources I used earlier to educate my self, started creating static websites, apps and port folios.

JavaScript: Sololeran was there, Videos From Lynda was there, JavatPoint was there, W3school was not excluded, FreeCodeCamp, Good people of StackOverflow. Created I can't count apps and website, became a freelancer, Created PW-Apps, Even the clocking system for examination for my school, e-libriaries etc.

PHP: hahaha, with the help of my gathered resources with the little i learnt, Created a Cloud platform for my dept in skul to facilitate direct Result checking, Created a Secured election web app, Currently building a web app(Generate reports, receipts, get Infos etc) stored in MysQl database based on a contract.
Still: developing my E-commerce system with my own construted server....
Yeah did i forget that I start powering servers.!!
Its been a Journey like wow...
Still aiming for the top(Of course I know there is no top).!!

Years...
Not at all, when i know I have build a good foundation on a language knowing its basics, I switch to the project lane, leearning the steep curves by doing projects, then I go to the advance aspect of that language, More Projects, then move to next language that can be fused with what i have learnt previously e.g from JavaScript To PHP or PYTHON.!!
A particular language may take me more than 3 months to learn with not less than 10hours Practice a day.!
NB: I still cont to learn more on a particular language i have learnt before to improve on what i have on ground.!

As soon as I finished my course work you need to see the way I was fvcking JavaScript and related frameworks.
I personally dragged react native to the floor, removed her pants and fvcked raw on tiles wink

LoL...
React-Native, that bitch, amma fu*k her real soon.!!

Well I start to learn programming language last year October, I start with the HTML and CSS tho they are not programming language but you need these two for any functioner web application or webpage... HTML was handy took me like 2weeks to learn, CSS took me like a month, then I started to learn CSS framework bootstrap. Bootstrap was easy to learn and makes CSS looks so easy, just familiarise yourself with those classes and call them... Lol... I learn JS for like two weeks, can't wrap my head around it, then I switched to PHP and database.. I find it pretty understanding... One thing about programming language is that all programming language have almost the same similarities, once you grab one, others will be pretty simple... And don't learn it because you heard one guy is earning 500k that now propelled you to learn it.. Trust me you gat to have passion for it and that passion will not make you give up if you encounter a bug or let me say problem during your journey as a programmer... I'm back now learning JS full time with PHP, currently building an e-commerce web app for students for make transaction easy on campus, I'm a graduate tho, and i didn't even study computer science...... Shout out to my YouTube channel edureka, udemy, solo learn, Julio codes among others... Stay With it, it will work...

Solve many exercises to test your basics and advanced(oop, decorator, generator etc) knowledge in python before you start learning Machine learning,it will really ease your learning of ML and Data science

After learning the basics of python, next phase is solving as much exercises as you can. It would help hone your skills.

You can find exercises on topcoder, codewars, hackeranks, leetcode etc. There are challenges available for beginners as well as experts, on these sites.

Next, download some datasets on kaggledotcom and try your hands on them using python data libraries like numpy, pandas etc. Good luck cool

Why data science and ML?

Machine learning is a subset of data science. Data Science is a broad term comprising of statistics, programming, data visualization, big data, machine learning and much more. The term machine learning is self explanatory. Machines learn to perform tasks that aren't specifically programmed to do.
so you see, Data Science and Machine Learning is a big deal in the IT world, you would have to put in your "A" game and be well prepared to carry the big guns, if you wanna be really successful in your suppose career.!
I would recommend courses from Lynda, FreeCodeCamp and good programming books from google books drive, you can also leverage website that offers free course e.g JavatPoint.com and also take on projects and publish them on your Git account ( a month is too small to grasp advance concept of python, get a solid foundation of python before diving to DS and ML )
I see learning as an Investment, which always pays when aligned with hardwork, dedication and constant practice.
GoodLuck

Last paragraph is everything. I'm currently executing a contract to supply schools in my environ with a home teaching website. Just a few months of focused learning got me here. It isn't easy but isn't hard either!!

To get started, I am a Graphic Designer and was tired of doing one skill, I venture into programming.

I started learning Python which took me 3 weeks to master all the basics, then I was like is that all?. I made a research on mobile development and web development, opted for web development, decided to go for Django because of its heavyweight and full stack development over flask. Well it has been 6 months of learning Django, the learning curve gets deeper everyday and have built alot of projects with Django such as; functional blogs, Super Heros websites I built for my company, colleague management system I built for my company as well.

In between, I was learning Javascript, mastered the basics within a week because of my Python knowledge, I started learning React, I built some websites with Django as my backend, React as my frontend, apps like where you can search for player and team details in the world.

My Learning Curve
Python(Advance python)
Django
JavaScript
React
Angular(little knowledge)
Java(intermediate)

Right now, I am working on an ecommerce website integrated with stripe payment, music app with React and Django.
It was not that easy combining all of this with my job but dedication, passion have made it possible.

All courses I took are from Udemy and Mosh Hamedani, the latter is a guru and a good mentor.

Wow...you've done things ooo

Do you have that mosh hamedani video.... The complete one?

I've only watched the 6hrs video that he made on YouTube...there seems to be more

I hear Data is the new oil grin
I've had the option to learn programming for a while but I pushed it off because I didn't have the motivation to.
Now, the lockdown's imposed but I'm glad I was motivated to begin before it began.

I chose Data Science and ML because that's what my mentor recommended and already what I was planning on veering into personally (AI, ML, IoT)
I hope you wouldn't mind me disturbing you small here tongue

[quote author=Cakephp post=87826000]started from HTML (nd now we're here lol) which didn't take more than two weeks to master.

Next was CSS which lasted for about a month or so..

Next was Graphics Design for web development which did not take time.
I also learnt how to create 2D animations because I was really interested in designs .
Presently, we use CSS3 and JavaScript combination to create animations and transitional effects [/b].

Next, I took a break and started building websites to test my skills. Also I was a student throughout my learning years.
Within the period of one year I had deployed several websites for showoffs to impress friends lol
built portals where past questions was sold to jambites I was already making real money by this time(even though I was still learning).

Next, I ignored JavaScript(even though I already scratched a little bit of it) and delved straight into PHP which was very sweet.
By this time I was already building real life applications for people(free of charge, though I was also making small cash sha..).
I also scratched a little bit of Python, Java, et all but I later settled for PHP.

Next was database administration which was also very sweet.
Normalization and complex queries was scratched.

Next, I came back to JavaScript the love of my life which I took for granted lol.

And then finally, I scratched a little bit of android app development using the various JavaScript frameworks.

Nowadays we really work with frameworks though.
I like Cakephp lol and codeigniter.

I wouldn't want to write about the resources and materials I consulted during my learning years.
I have physical notebooks on those subjects.

Mentor me please, I can't self taught that much, distractions too plenty, I am a beginner
