Some churches are still collecting, online banking has been set up to this regard. Also, what about previous offerings? No matter how little they can give, the thought also matters a lot.
If people are not allowed to work, how will they pay tithe? also, these are uncertain times when people hold on to what they have, offerings they send online will be meagre.

Was the rice given to only church members or shared to every Tom, D!ck and Harry?

Giving is the way forward.

The church should always set the pace.
they should bring them to you at the mosques?

What My Church Distributed To Ease Lock Down

My church just sent 10,000 cash coupled with half bag of Rice to ease the lock down during covid-19. First Baptist Church Garki, Abuja has done well.
This is what Christianity is all about whether in crisis like this or not. Check out those that brought christianity to us honestly you will cry for churches in Africa. On the last day many go gnash teeth indeed sha.

Matthew 25: 34-40
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.
36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?
39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,[c] you were doing it to me!’

Baptist church always lead by example, I can remember many years ago 1995, 1996 or there about when there was shortdown in our father's company during the time of General Abacha govt. Our church Baptist church survived all the members what the did was to ask each member to come to collect food item every month they will share to every member of of the family from father, mother, children depending the number of children a family have. They will also add money to the food items.
That was d Church did for more than two years.. But today churches even made more money her no kind gesture of such..

I trust Catholic church. Each Pariah would have done something similar through its charity arm; St Vincent, but now, how will they conduct such charity when the churches are closed?

At unusual praise event last year, with more than 80,000 people in attendance, we all got fed and took gifts home. The food bank at Falomo is no longer operating. The Church, especially Catholic can do great things this period but it has been held back.
I disagree with you. I'm a Catholic and a parishioner of one of the largest Catholic churches in Lagos. The church hasn't been held back. We all have our registration cards and our major info with the church. They can get our data from there and reach out to as many they can. There are no excuses here. They can put on protective gears and reach out to their registered parishioners with food items and some token.

They sent it to how many house hold?
Among the beneficiaries, are there non tithe payers?
Are poor members beneficiaries too?
Are the people the pastors don't know personally among the beneficiaries?

What about the monies/offerings/tithes they've been collecting long before this pandemic? Do you think they don't have account?

Did your Priest not read the letter from Bishop to you? no more mass or gathering in the Church until after lock down. If you're truly a Catholic, are you not aware that periodically especially times like these, Easter period is when St Vincent give out food rations and clothes to the poor?(not only Catholics) contact them when the lockdown is over, they will tell you when they would conduct the next one. It's usually done around all parishes simultaneously. I'm a member of the society in my Parish.

There are councils that need to sit before such monies are approved from Church account. This is why I laugh when atheists accuse all pastors and priests of spending money without being accountable to anyone for it.
