No I wasn't talking of the value of the USD, I was referring primarily to the demand for USD in Nigeria. I give an example, if Nigeria needed say $1 to import it's vital needs in 1999, today Nigeria needs about $10 to import its vital needs. Vital needs include things like food, petroleum products, raw materials, medicines etc. In 1999, the rate of import was low, we sourced most of our vital needs internally. But you agree with me that that isn't quite the case today. So what I actually meant was that if $5bn reserve in 1999 was able to meet say 70% of our import needs in 1999, due to the import craze over the last 20 years, Nigeria would need about $50bn to meet 70% of its vital needs today.

In case u still don’t understand,in simple words it was declared a no mans land or better still it was owned by all Nigerians. This is where the development of Lagos started... with its status as the federal capital territory it was governed by the federal government. The federal government brought massive developments to the state with monies gotten from other regions , and this attracted a lot of indigenes from other regions . So in other words Lagos was basically developed by the federal government n non indigenes especially Ndigbos .
For your info the wealth in ikoyi n vi cannot be traced to Lagos as a state or to its government. The wealth in those areas are owned by Nigerians at large . At a point in time Ojukwu’s father was said to have owned more than half of the lands in ikoyi. Besides the wealth in Bonny island alone, an island that hosts the NLNG, shell, Mobil, chevron and agip can be said to be more than all the islands in Lagos.
I know some ignoramus would start claiming they also have those companies in Lagos , they forget that those are mere offices, the real wealth is in the drilling of the oil.
