Should I Leave My Phd Study Here In Nigeria And Go For Another Meng In The UK? by Crenzywilliams(m): 2:51pm On Apr 06, 2020
Good day my People, so I got this offer from an uncle living in the UK. He's asking me to come do another master's degree in the UK, and he'll pay half the fees for me. Am just in the first year of my PhD studies here, and am really finding it difficult to cope cause of finance. His opinion is this, I'll get access to state of the art equipment, and facilities, plus I'll get a better quality of life living abroad, and am really down for that. I currently don't have any job and hustle to get by, he's been telling me that if I haven't gotten a job since I graduated why do I think I'll get one after my PhD here, and that's a valid point.
My challenges, am not getting any younger and am not married yet, if I leave and go it'll take more time to settle down and stuff like so. Secondly, I've got a small business am currently trying to run down here, although it's not been doing well for some time now, bit am still believing it'll pick up.
So my question is this, is it better to leave everything down here and go do a second master's degree in the UK, or continue struggling and hoping to make it down here even with all the obstacles?

Crenzywilliams please leave as soon as possible. PhD in Nigeria is mere paper few graduate are better off but majority are worst off. No exposure, no proper scientific study, constant delay etc

Why not a post doc? If you’re really good at your area of specialization, you will surely get opportunities abroad. Another big advantage of post Doc is that it provide dual opportunity either into the academia or industrial world in your instance.
As you work on your thesis, you can share with either of these groups that share in your interest and line of work. Someone will certainly buy into it. I have proofs

Also, entry into European post CORVID19 will be tricky not to talk about when the disruption to academic activities will settled.

My take is stay locked in Nigeria, but think global

I'll advice you go to the UK,if at all you trust your uncle to keep to his words.
You can equally complete your PhD here and get yourself a decent job abroad with it.

Come back here when the coast is clear.

Anyways, how sure are you that when you get there things will become rossy all of a sudden?
That's a foreign country you're heading to.

If you think the biz here will pick up,why don't you exercise a little bit patience?

I strongly believe this coro shiii is going to boost businesses (not much details).

Finally #thechoiceisyourstomake.

Please be careful.

A PhD can help in many ways. Complete your PhD please. You can always go to the UK or Europe at some other time.

Speaking as someone who has schooled in the UK and Europe.

Thanks, what's the hope of getting a job with it here? That's another question I've got on my mind.

UK is very expensive. School fees is about 13000 pounds. Half of it is 6500 pounds. How will you get the remaining 6500 pounds which equates to about 3.1 Million Naira. Also you will need money for accommodation and living expenses which is about 250k per month.

You should try Chinese Government PhD scholarship (CSC). Application closes April 30th. If your uncles pays all your MSc UK Tuition fee, then you should go to UK. Tell him to help you financially for your PhD or try other MSc and PhD scholarship in USA and China.

I plan on raising the reminder myself, I personally don't want to go to Asia, I prefer UK or Canada. Thanks very helpful tip. I'll also research it though.
