The Peugeot 504 was the official car of General Olusegun Obasanjo as Nigeria's Head-of-State in 1979.

It was the same car that drove President Shehu Shagari from his inauguration on October 1, 1979, but he later dumped it for a Mercedes Benz.

I don't think so. The Mercedes has always been a high status car and mid 70s was no exception. The move to Peugeot, seen as a middle class car, was actually a directive from OBJ

In fact it was the profligacy that characterized much the Gowon years where public officials were using exotic high end cars (like the benz) that made OBJ make the directive.

What car has replaced the 504 Peugeot car in this modern time in terms of ruggedity and parts flexibility?

This car and contact set problems (At least thats what they called it.) If i hear say you no get lighter or matches inside this motto.

Asides the occasional early morning cold, the car was ready to go anywhere. Even when cold catch am, just light up the contact set, e go answer.

Too much waste of money buying official cars to all and sundries in government. Have you seen the British PM's official car? The MPs don't even have official cars. Why is Nigeria so wasteful?
