We don't need to see the budget b4 we judge it. I bet my balls the National Assembly will still receive their complete budget so what's the amendment?

Well, in 2015, there was a lot of talk about how APC would diversify the economy

Five years later, nothing. Our economy is still very very dependent on oil. And now, because oil has crashed, the budget needs to be slashed.

The problem with Nigeria is that we have an economy devoted to sharing the revenue we earn from selling raw materials. In the 1960's it was agriculture, now it is oil. Meanwhile, we could be like Japan, China and Korea...and develop an economy based on producing industrial goods and selling them.

APC isn't doing that. And the sad thing? PDP too has no idea on how to do that.
Nigeria has reached a high level of rice sufficiency and if you cannot see it, then you really shouldn't be making comments.

Rice mills are being opened everyday whilst the government has even shut the land borders to reduce the act of smuggling.

Isn't that diversification ?

Re: FG Slashes 2020 Budget by adecz: 4:26pm On Apr 08, 2020
The slash is too small.

Most of the amounts were already
padded by over 7O%.

National Assembly refurbishment
should be cancelled outright.. Any
Lawmakers that think they can't stay
should resign..

Lessons For African Rulers!

1. The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson contracted the novel coronavirus in the line of duty. #Leadership

2. Even at that, he continued to discharge his duty from his self-isolation centre. #Commitment

3. When his situation became worse and he couldn't carry on any longer, the British Foreign Secretary (Dominic Raab) stepped in for him. #Structure

4. He was not taken abroad for treatment. #System

5. He is being treated at St Thomas Hospital right there in London. #Patriotism.

6. The hospital is a public hospital where anyone can walk in and be treated. #Equality.

7. The media has been giving the world constant update about his health. #Trasnperency!

8. The opposition party is also wishing him well because he has shown great leadership. #CountryFirst

9. When he was moved to the intensive care unit of the hospital, it wasn't shrouded in secrecy. #Accountability.

In conclusion: Leadership is not about the leader. It is about the people. Until Africans understand this, they will continue to rule (and be ruled) rather than lead (and be led).

That's not the type of diversification I am talking about.

Back in the Obasanjo admin, we had talk about 'cassava' andduring GEJ's time...there was talk about 'cocoa'

At the end of the day, it did not make much impact on our economy, principally because 'everyone is doing it'. Everyone is producing and exporting food crops. Prices fall, and there isn't enough cash for the treasury.

If we want to earn enough cash for the economy, we have to be an economy based on industrial development, not on producing food and oil and sharing the money. That's the model we have been following since the 1960's and it isn't working anymore.

Recurrent not Slashed. Olodo don take over
Exactly!!,why capital expenditure, dey com leave recurrent. There salaries go dey continue and the projects that will benefit all of us and which the economy needs badly at this time will suffer.

What time is a better time to downsize the civil service if not now so has to free up funds for capital projects.

You cannot skip the phase of food sufficiency.

You cannot be talking of industrial development when the basic agro allied businesses on the small scale do not exist.

It is from rice planting that you develop an mechanised way of farming.

It is from local milling that you design conveyor methods and other means of achieving your objective.

Only people who are fed can develop industry.
