Zainab Ahmed: ₦5.548 Trillion Available To Fund 2020 Budget by Faithdamy(m): 2:15am On May 15, 2020
Faithdamy:
While briefing the leadership of the National Assembly on Thursday, the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, reveal that the amount available for funding the 2020 Budget is now estimated at N5.548 trillion.

The minister also spoke on the plan by the federal government to amend the N10.59 trillion 2020 budget passed by the National Assembly in December last year.

She said the budget is down from N8.419 trillion, a revised revenue estimate which is 34 percent (N2.87 trillion) lower than what was initially approved, adding that the crude oil benchmark price is reduced from US$57 per barrel to US$25 per barrel.

The Minister said;
The federal government also adjusted the budget exchange rate to N360/US$1; and reduced the upfront fiscal deductions by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for mandated Oil and Gas sector expenditures by 65 percent from N1.223 trillion to N424 billion.

The US$57 crude oil price benchmark approved in the 2020 budget is no longer sustainable.

It is necessary to reallocate resources in the 2020 budget, to ensure the effective implementation of required emergency measures, and mitigate the negative socioeconomic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In line with the global economic outlook and relevant domestic considerations, the assumptions underpinning the 2020-2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the 2020 Budget was revised to slash crude oil benchmark price from US$57 per barrel to US$25 per barrel; reduce crude oil production benchmark from 2.18 million barrels per day to 1.9 mbpd.

Federal Government’s aggregate expenditure budget was slashed by N88.412 billion; Statutory Transfer from N560.47 billion to N397.87 billion; and Overhead costs of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government from N302.43 billion to N240.91 billion.

Debt Service provision was, however, increased from N2.453 trillion to N2.678 trillion.

The sum of N186.37 billion will be applied toward COVID-19 interventions across the federation, while an additional N213.60 billion was provided in the Service Wide Votes for COVID-19 Crisis Intervention recurrent expenditures.

The national Assembly should go on lockdown for a year. Let them find jobs or return to their businesses for now. The expenses they rake is too much and there's no money for now.

You can't be putting on agbada well starched & iron and the people you claim you're representing are suffering.

Let's see down and face the glaring reality before us. We can't continue like this.

Nigeria is finished!
Instead of cutting luxury, waste and cost of governance, Zainab will rather pile up unsustainable DEBT on Nigeria.

This is an audio feeding & its a scam.

Common palliatives didn't get to one quarter of the population. Those who couldn't succeed while giving palliatives are not talking about feeding the children at home.

Why can't you give their parents money instead and they'll take care of their children.

I hope the media prevail on them to stop this nonsense before they drain everything.

So why are you still borrowing from IMF? Or is it that they just love to pay interest?

Reality is setting in, from #10t to #5t. In essence, what they are saying means, if you have been eating one full loaf of bread, expect to eat half moving forward.

If the kids are so hungry that the government has to feed them, it implies that their parents are poor. Shouldn't a responsible government be thinking of how to lift these parents out of poverty so that they can feed their kids themselves?

With a start up of 50k, the #670m will be able to raise13400 petty traders DAILY! who will in turn be able to cater for their kids. In a month, about 400 000 people would have been touched. Whatever the Government gets in repayment would be used to cater for new beneficiaries until it goes round.

Isn't this better than the controversial and possibly corruption-ridden feeding program?

If the NASS failed to arrest this situation, I will conclude that they are complicit in this mismanagement of our scarce resources.

The most useless government ever in the history of this country. Who is even better among them? Even as bad as we thought GEJ government is, we can still be boastful of Okonjo and Adeshina. This government has no relevance at all.

January, salary was 210k,
February = 193k
March = 184k
April = 167k

All this cutting done with impunity...

what has Mr self acclaimed integrity done in his own vein to drastically reduce the cost of governance in this administration?a lot office are not needed but he keep creating more ,when it comes to wasteful governance this administration will not be left out, I am not a fan of the legislative arms of government because they contribute nothing to the running of the government compared to their take home ,but I find it more hypocritical to always point finger at legislatures forgetting that we have the executive as the driver of the bus yet nothing is said about them, Buhari promised us a lot of things about how he is going to manage the resources prudently, I think the reverse is case today.
