So there was actually something called subsidy!

Don't be surprised they find another name for it tomorrow to perpetuate the sleaze.

As long as we aren't refining our crude oil locally, we'll still be playing all of these phoney bills.
Lol...you remember how they lied that Jonathan's government was using the subsidy lie as a means of looting. All of a sudden there is now subsidy.

That usually happens in countries where citizens actually pay their taxes... grin
>

Paying tax to a government that can't be held accountable is like throwing money into the sea. A huge waste. Even the oil money they earn can't be accounted for. They want to reap where they ve not sown. When our government start acting responsibly people will be happy to pay taxes seeing what their money is being used for.

Nothing to show that this administration is doing well. No good roads, no light, no jobs, no security, no food etc. Even they receive 20 trillion naira, nothing will still happen. Bunch of thieves. May Coronavirus locate them all and their families.

Chicken and egg situation...
Waiting for the government to do things that most governments do with tax revenue before you pay taxes. grin

Taxes are the obligation of citizenship (or residency). It is what gives you a voice and the moral right to make financial demands on government. In other words, it is the financial part of that vaunted social contract between the government and the governed. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, the oil windfall (that until relatively recently was produced by foreigners) has caused the government to become un-accountable to the citizenry since it does not rely on tax revenue paid by citizens, and has similarly caused the citizens to demand public services without bothering to pay for it.

Frankly, tax dodgers and evaders are just as societally “irresponsible” as the government. Furthermore, they are effectively “stealing” from those of us who pay taxes when they enjoy public services (public schools, hospitals, law enforcement) financed by those who bother to pay our taxes.

Bros, kerosene and diesel (as well as aviation fuel) pricing were deregulated YEARS AGO...
That’s one reason the petrol subsidy made little no economic sense - given that diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel impacted the citizenry more.

Yes, I know, I'm just trying to reason why the price still remain the same despite the slash in crude price

My own point of view is that, by the time they privatise the current refineries, how many of the refineries owners can actually compete with Dangote?

In the long run everything will end up in monopoly.

Dude you re so right, except that nobody really enjoys public service here. We pay for most of the things we use, imagine buying a transformer, poles, cables and paying nepa officials to install it and still pay bills monthly, really? The law enforcement agents kill more Nigerians than terrorist and there's nothing in public hospitals that is free, we pay for every service rendered and still pay tax that ll be stolen by politicians who don't pay tax... This is not magic, it takes time to gain peoples confidence once its lost, if our government start being responsible, more and more people will be happy to pay taxes
