Minor or awaiting case, they are all criminals, only criminals do crimes and await judgement for Minor or big offenses

There is an ulterior motive and it is probably corrupt. What is the point in this? Prisoners are already quarantined. They should be in one of the safest places there is. Releasing convicted felons is about one of the dumbest things I ever heard of, they are in prison because they are a threat to society , politicians live in walled homes with armed security , what about us, and they want to take our safety that we have to defend ourselves, family and homes, but they are not giving up their armed guards ! What a great idea! Now that regular people are trapped at home, release all the prison and jail residents to rob and break into all. They're in jail for being a threat..... no re-do or Monday quarterback.
If they didnt follow rules like no kill, no steal, no assault.... think they'll comply to social distancing or wearing a mask??

Besides, not everybody in prison is a criminal. Many of you saying things like this are way more criminal than some of the people in Nigerian prisons. Do you know that over 90 percent of people in Nigerian prisons have not even been convicted? Besides, the number of people to be released is an infinitesimal amount compared to those that are in there.

If you were not safe before, the release of 2600 prisoners is not what would make you less safe.

You are stopped on a Friday night while you are trying to buy something by the police in a "raid". By Monday, you are still unable to bribe the police to free yourself and that same Monday, you are charged to court for a trumped up charge and the magistrate does not take your plea. Your case is adjourned for four weeks and you have to go to prison awaiting trial. Are you a criminal?

If you think the scenario above is unlikely, then you don't know Nigeria. Over 90 percent of people in Nigerian prisons are awaiting trial. A significant proportion have not even started trial.

most of the prisons are aiidy congested with lots of prisoners.. So its only wise to release those with minor crimes or you think most of the prisoners are bad people? No dear.. Some have been there for years because of awaiting trial.. coronavirus can be transmitted through the prison wardens cos they do go outside the prison of course... So its only wise to pardon those with minor crimes and those awaiting trial so as to create space in the prison yards
