PRESS RELEASE
STOP DEPICTING THE MILITARY AS BRUTAL IN
YOUR DRAMA SKITS

1. There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic
has brought about a variety of measures to stem its
spread in our country. Some of these measures
include restriction of movement, lockdown and stay
at home directives which are being enforced by
various government and security agencies. Some
creative Nigerians found it expedient to provide
comic relief through the production of funny jokes,
graphics, drama skits and video clips to entertain
the public. The materials are circulated through
social media.

2. Unfortunately, most of these clips circulating on
social media bordered on the Nigerian soldier and
projecting the military as lawless, brutal and being
harsh on people flouting the stay at home order
pursuant to the lockdown and stay at home
directives imposed in some states in Nigeria. There
is no doubt these drama skits and video clips
denigrate and cast the military and the security
forces in a bad light.

3. This development creates a wrong impression and general perception of our soldiers negatively and projects them as undisciplined and brutal. Thus, creating an erroneous impression of the military. We are well trained and dedicated professionals that perform our Constitutional duties diligently and dispassionately with utmost regards
for human rights and rules of engagement.

4. It is wrong to continue to produce such drama skits, video clips and graphics at the expense of the excellent image of the Nigerian soldier. It affects troops morale and has a broad implication for national security. No nation or good citizen make jest of its military. Therefore, we are appealing to well-meaning Nigerians and producers of such materials to desist forthwith. The military or security agencies should not be made the subject or focus of those skits at the expense of a key and strategic arm of the security architecture of our great nation.

5. On our part, we will continue to discharge our Constitutionally assigned tasks professionally respecting human rights and rules of engagement. We will also investigate the source of such props and costumes and ensure that military uniforms will not be used to denigrate the military.

That's one of the Nigerians issue.

When shits happen, they'll never see the good side of you rather than lay more emphasis on that bad sides.

Not all military men are bad.

If one paints a picture of the army in a comedy skit, and the majority of viewers relate well with it, then you know that the picture is probably true. Why not try to work on the poor military-civilian relationship rather than trying to suppress an already established wildspread public perception of the army.

Meanwhile.

Okay. We should really stop portraying them as such.

We should start portraying them as the insensitive, lily-livered paper tiger cowards that they truly are, whose stock in trade and modus operandi is bullying hapless 'bloody civilians', donating weaponry to Boko Haram, and making tactical manouvres (a euphemism for desertion of course)to Cameroon when their scourge BH overpowers them.

Nonsense and Buratai Burantashi.

Hausas are weak same with fulanis thats why they attack the vulnerable during war or riots. they take strength in their multitude and surprise attacks. Have u ever seen hausa or fulanis fight and open war and win alone? A large percentage of them fill the military, thats why Nigerian military is weak. southerns have more experience and heart for open wars, d ijaws, igbos, yorubas, benins etc. If there will be a breakway, the north wont stand the chance there alot of allies that will join the southern Army

This is very true. I have often held the opinion that such skits are very dangerous. They now see themselves as demigods. This is even more popular amongs the comedians. I think it’s totally wrong and should be condemned.

Those industries should do skits that discourages and challenges such impunity.

The only problem I have with the skits is that it gives our security officers morale to be silly.

We keep telling the army that we fear them by those skits making them take advantage.

We will also investigate the source of such props and costumes and ensure that military uniforms will not be used to denigrate the military.

the statement from the army has proved the comedians right. Nigerian army are only tough on civilians.

why dont you start by first investigating the source of fulani herdsmen terrorist and bokoharam military uniforms and leave the poor comedians alone!

all ways flexing their power on poor civilians.

just few weeks to lock down and they have killed two civilians, maimed a lot of them and threatened to rape women and infect them with HIV and yet they are here trying to make us see them as saints!

OGA PLS CARRY YOUR HIV INFECTED NIGERIAN ARMY SHIFT GO ONE SIDE! angry

Wetin dey save una is the fact that Nigerians are not allowed to carry weapons if not, una for know say some civilians are soldiers on their own.

Pepper body, chicken-hearted Nigerian Army! (Apologies to real chickens... undecided)
They will not respond to critical issues but when people are making their wickedness known thorough various means of communication they start getting overly sensitive. Before you know it they and DSS will start arresting v-loggers and those who make comedy skits clearly depicting their cowardly stupidity. Face BH they will run but when it comes to civilians they will have power!

Weaker you say?

Put alot of things in mind please.. The Nigerian army are doing such a great job & we shouldn't try to bastardized what they've been able to achieve so far. The fight against insurgency in a country like ours can't just be won at once, there's more to the eyes than you see. Lots of men have given up their lives for this struggle & we shouldn't because of some senseless ones who probably haven't been to the core battlefield rather than stationed amongst civilians to maintain law & order which honestly, they're doing in with wrong approach, then devalue those who have sacrifice everything they have.. We're not a political party.

According to most of the live streaming we see online, Nigerian soldiers are very unprofessional in their conduct and the comedians are supposed to expose their unprofessional behaviours.
