I’m not a tax or property expert but I know you’re required to pay taxes no matter what the payment status is in your house. Whether cash pay or mortgaged.

However I don’t know what happens if you refuse to pay, since that’s not an option. You have to pay.
Maybe they will come at you for tax evasion or something of similar nature. Usually involves a big fine and/or jail time. I won’t be surprised if they repossess your house depending on how much tax you’re owing.
