Who Are The Poor Of The Poor And The Vulnerable During Covid-19 In Nigeria Today by Lifediary(op): 10:57am On Apr 11, 2020
Fellow Nairalanders and Nigerians. I greet you all most especially during this Covid-19 pandemic season.
I will want us to discuss who "the poor of the poor and vulnerable people" are in today's Nigeria that is combating Covid-19 pandemic.
Are they those on the so-called social register alone?
Does the poor of the poor include Nigerians that they and their families depend on daily income for survival? Nigerians like Carpenters, Vulcanizers, Petty traders and traders, Mecahnics, Drivers, Conductors, Marketers, etc. You can also add to the list. These are Nigerians that due this present lockdown in some states, the have been rendered and joined the league of the so-called "poor-of-the-poor".
Does the vulnerable according to the government also include those mentioned earlier? That due to the fact that there are no means of survival will become hypertensive and fall sick that is not even due to Coronavirus infection. Does the vulnerable include those due to no daily income to cater for daily family needs will lead to increase domestic misunderstanding and violence at home. Does the vulnerable include those that are now more prone to robbery attacks due to this Lockdown?
Only if we keep on deceiving ourselves are we going to be oblivious to the fact that their is massive hunger in areas were their is complete lockdown.
Only if we keep on deceiving ourselves are going to say that the Government so-called palliatives are getting to real poor of the poor and vulnerable in these lockdown States.
I believe the government should look beyound the so-called social register and man-up to their duties and responsibilities rather than what we are experiencing presently.
My thoughts, feel free to express yours.
Let's discuss what we feel can be done wholesomely and objectively.

NB: there is every possibility that the lockdown will be extended.
