Hello people, I'd like to know if it's possible to transport cars from lagos to port harcourt in this lockdown. And for the people that have transported cars purchased from amdman to other state, is it at the port that you got ur plate number and a driver that took it to your preferred state, or you arranged it before time?
Thanks for your response in advance

Forget transportation of cars during lock down. It's advisable you get your number plate in Portharcourt to reduce police checks

You can only get you number plate from Licensing office or any of the State's Board of Internal Revenue, not from the port. And I'm guessing you have to arrange for delivery. If you're expecting your car any moment from now, it's safe to start making the arrangements now.

On the contrary, I think it's best to get the number plate in Lagos before it hits the road, this is because once the police gets an inkling that it's a new car, they want to collect 'their share' and carrying the car without a number plate will suggest to all and sundry on the highway that it's a new car.

If he/she insists on getting a port Harcourt number plate, he/she can also get it in Lagos too.

It makes no difference. Policemen can identify a newly registered vehicle miles before it gets to them.

That was what I initially thought when I bought mine so I had it registered in Lagos. There was hardly any checkpoint where the vehicle was not stopped.

Can I use another person's number plates, to bring the car down to PH? Are there any implications I should know of?

Nope. you can't use another car plate number. if you insist on getting PH plate number, you can do it in 2ways, you either get it in Lagos or you get in PH and send to Lagos to convey your car to PH. please don try using another car plate number to bring your car to PH it is a criminal offense oo.

Who no go, no know. They can spot it immediately. Probably something to do with the registration number itself, I have no idea.

Don't ever try that, it is criminal.
It's better you drive down to PH with no number, there is no offence in that. They will only say you should settle them.

BTW ain't the ports locked down at this period?

Seaports in the country are not on lockdown. Tho I'm not sure how easy it will be to move vehicles from the ports during lockdown.

You'll be shown on Sahara reporters, Daily times and NL front-page as a car jacker....

Nobody would even allow you explain anything.

Don't try it abeg. It's better a car has NO REGISTRATION, than a fake one

As others has advised , the risk attached is not worth the experience. But this is what I did around last year December .
I had to leave lagos by 2:30am to beat most of the law enforcement checkpoints. I arrived Osha exactly 8:30.

Within those periods most are in recess or the checks are not rigid.

Yes you can use another person number plate for your car.
It is very possible, once you hang another person number plate witha at least two (2) screws each it would stay very well. Very simple.

But also don't forget to kiss that car good bye

The driver self, that may be the last time you may see him

And you my friend would definitely be on the next van to kiri Kiri.

And we shall all read the aftermath on nairaland and move on.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On a less serious note, get an ABUJA number plate. Police will always stop you with respect.

Any Lagos number plate with last 2 letters starting from 'G' is surely straight outta port and an apple of policeman eye!

Rivers number no get level.
But for security reasons, if the car would be used more than 90% in PHC, better get the Rivers number plate so u can always avoid easy identification from those nincompoop wey full that area dey shout abobi weeda you, cap for me, where you anchor .
