I just got a redmi note 8 and it's shocking how it saps data like water. I've restricted necessary apps but it's still on the increase. Like I'm using an average of 1gb per day if not more despite a restricted use.

Is this peculiar to me alone?

Who's experienced this and can proffer a way out? I'm tired already and I'm thinking of selling it off.
Still waiting...

Almost 2 years using Redmi Note 5, no such thing as data consumption and I didn't restrict anything.

His are main data consuming apps
1. Instagram
2. WhatsApp Statuses
3. Facebook
4. Apps that have alot of ads. Get pro versions.
5. Avoid unnecessary streaming.
Thanks bro. However,I only use Facebook, Whatsapp and surf nairaland quite often.

I have used Note 5 pro, mi max 2.

Currently using MI Max 3.

Nothing like zapping data, I even stream videos.

If not for Coronavirus that affected premier league, I stream live football and airtel takes 300mb to 400mb to stream full match, I always off the data after first half and put it on when the second half begins.

Now I use glo and the 4g is fast here, nothing like data zapping.

Phone do not zap data.... Apps and some settings does.

Moreover checking every photo on fb and Instagram, watching every short video.. auto updates, background apps and others do zap data
Thanks bro. How do I restrict auto update?

Here's it bro
According to your data usage, your data spent is well accounted for...
Or what has been used is different from what your phone is calculating?

Also sites with alot of ads especially pop up ads consumes alot of data.

Webpages can be large do you know a webpage can be as high as 11MB per page?.

Incase you are experiencing ads on the MIUI Apps like browser, music, video themes etc, there are ways of disabling them.

See below

Hope you ain't a Tecno or Infinix marketer that want to bad mouth Xiaomi brand.. Just hearing about this ur staged complain for the first time, cos I have flex Xiaomi phones from 2016 till date. If U are sincere go to settings and check data usage to know the exactly apps consuming ur data
Why would you think it's staged bro? Can't we make complaints at peace without this stereotype? I've used both brands before porting to this.

Adguard Pro does that but only one app stubbornly refuse to work well with it and it is UCBROWSER

click on the system and upload the screenshot. But from what you've shown us, you spend a lot of time on Facebook app and today alone, you've used 55MB on that app alone. By the end of the day, it's possible to have used 200MB on just that single app. This is not rocket science...The more you enjoy the internet especially on these social media apps, the more data you use. It's possible though that the auto sync for your gallery is on so for every picture you take, data is used to upload it to the cloud and that's why I have requested for you to shows the system data usage stat

Even when I use 2g data to browse on MTN to reduce data I use I still manage to use more than 600mb

I am currently using the browser to log on here... So far so good...
Because of popups annoyance na im make me dey use UCBROWSER 10.5.0, but that version of UCBROWSER no dey work for android version higher than kitkat.
Na im led me to go find something better, which I am currently testing.

I have used over 400mb today alone... And every usage is accounted for.
But the op has so far not been able to show details of where his dissatisfaction due to data consumption is arising from.
Facebook is the highest data consumer on his phone. And Facebook is not from xiaomi or is it a system app that cannot be uninstalled.
If there is any blame to share, Facebook gets a 50% blame while the rest of the apps do the rest.
But none is xiaomi related.

Re: Redmi Phones And Data Usage by inspbado(m): 8:23pm On Apr 13, 2020
I use a redmi 8 and I've no such issues as complained of. What you need to do is stop all auto updates and syncing on your phone, that's playstore, Yahoo, Gmail, photo gallery, etc. Also limit the number of times your social media apps, Facebook, Twitter etc refresh themselves eg limit them to hourly or just daily timeframes. And reduce time spent on data intensive apps like Instagram, Facebook (videos), YouTube etc, cos these apps are data guzzlers

1. Reduce viewing people's statuses esp videos

2. CALL GLO AND ASK IF YOU ARE SHARING YOUR DATA WITH ANY NUMBER.

Number 2 happened to me of recent and I was so pissed off. I never knew I was sharing my data with an unknown number

Sir, Redmi Note 8 is not consuming data, You are consuming data with your usage. Just imagine what you used on WhatsApp and Facebook alone. If you don't mind, click on the system, tree first on the list and let us see what is consuming the data over there.
Re: Redmi Phones And Data Usage by HisExcellence(m): 9:10am On Apr 14, 2020
I don't know why people are complaining of what they are using by their self, see all the Apps usage and they still complaining about the phone as if it's the phone that are opening the Apps, watching Videos, screaming live etc.

Am using Redmi Note 8 Pro and I don't have such Data Zap on mine despite all my system syncing are ON.

Also what I noticed is depends on the network you are using for example if I browsed with MTN, the data usage MTN charged me is different from what shows on my data usage, MTN may say have used 10gb of data while all my phone data usage maybe 6gb so where's the 4gb usages that don't show on my data usage.

But on Airtel all my Data usage are justified, my phone data usage is tally with my Data Balance.

That means something is wrong somewhere.

Hello, what am seeing here you haven't update to mui 11. firstly update it. secondly, you can download Facebook lite, instead of using normal Facebook app, thirdly, minimize your chrome you usage, & set it to data save, fourth , uninstall unusing apps, fifth, use only opera mini lite not the main app of 60mb, Six, go to apps, and remove some apps from using data connection. that would it.
