If you observe all of the photos of the President holding meetings in the last few weeks, it would appear that everyone that has come into close proximity with the President has worn a face mask and gloves. I can bet they are also sprayed down with a strong disinfectant before they meet with him. That ensures the President is protected in case the visitor is infected.

With this, I don't see the need for the President to wear a mask and gloves.

Nose masks also prevents infection when used properly. The virus floats in air for some minutes (at least) after discharge from an infected person. The virus also stays active on surfaces for several hours or days.
Now, anyone could touch those dirty surfaces and within the next moment of distraction, transfer his hands to his nose or lips. This is where the mask serves as a barrier.

New things are discovered about this virus everyday.
With the Chinese government who has made it a punishable offence for anyone, infected or not, to appear in public without a mask, you should realize that there's some merit to it. After all, they created it. And they have absolutely refused for other countries to research into the origin of the virus.
