President Muhammadu Buhari has mandated the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to conduct 4,000 tests per day.

NCDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed this yesterday at the 11th joint national briefing of the Presidential Taskforce Force on COVID-19, he said Buhari had mandated the NCDC to increase testing in Lagos to 2,000; FCT, 1,000 and the rest of Nigeria, 1,000 per day.

He said:

“We now have the capacity to test 1,500 people per day across the network. This capacity is not being fully utilized at the moment.

The challenge right now is not the laboratory testing capacity, it is how active our public workforce is in identifying samples, collecting and sending them for testing.

“We have sufficient capacity to test 1,500 right now and we’re not close to exhausting that capacity every day. But from today, we’ve to push even harder.

Our target following Mr. President’s speech is to get 2,000 samples per day in Lagos, 1,000 in Abuja and 1,000 for the rest of the country.

“…The challenge is no longer with the labs, the challenge is in collecting samples from those identified as suspect cases.”

U have the capacity to test 4,000 nigerians daily.but,u dont have the capacity to pay them daily...able capacitor..naso d thunder wey go fire una don gather enough capacity.

about 200million divided by 4000. Only God knows how many years it will get done. After a month from this time, thats when I can ascertain the truth nature of convid 19 in Nigeria.

Most Nigerians have since lost faith in Buhari, we are just waiting for an absolution that might never come. The aftermath of this pandemic on Nigerians might be a revolution. As hunger knows no tribe or political party. It's gradually starting in Lagos. That's the only good thing I sense that might come of this very difficult time.

So, the capacity isnt up to 4000? And they will think 4000 is a feat.

Now lets do some arithmetic.
if 4000 tests are conducted
successfully daily,
And Nigeria population is 200mil, it will take 50,000 days which is approximately 139 years to test 200mil Nigerians.

Now lets take a population of 50mil, 1/4 of the population,
It will take, 12500days to cover 50mil people thats about 34 years.

So, why all this calculation?

You can see that the test number raised doesn't mean the commoners are likely to be tested.
So, stay safe, remain indoors and Maintain proper precautionary measures.
