Actually I am not denying that some armed robbers are caught in the act. However you will agree with me that people cannot be fully trusted where driven by fear or paranoia.

Someone could say that boy looked like a thief. Then another person would say, 'he is surely a thoef'. Then the next person screams 'thief' for acceptance and in the next couple of minutes, he is tortured and probably killed.

This has happened more often than you think or has been recorded. You only need one person to call that boy a thief and you find other people coming up with affirmations how he is actually a thief. It is the reason a peaceful protest can turn violent.

In the presence of a group, it is hard to ask critical questions you would otherwise ask. It is easy to be mistaken and be driven to blame an innocent person for your feelings.
