The second COVID-19 patient in Rivers will be discharged any moment from now.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike disclosed this in a press conference at the Government House on Friday.

He said: “The second case which was recorded and taken to the treatment centre has now tested negative and will be discharged this morning, thanks to God for His mercy.”

The governor commended health officials and security operatives for the success in containing the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has announced ‘total lockdown’ of parts of Port Harcourt, the state capital from Saturday.

The Governor expressed displeasure at disobedience of his directives on closure of some markets and other business places to stop the spread of the deadly COVID-19.

He particularly lamented that stores and houses were being converted into markets in clear disobedience of the orders.

He said: “Lockdown will be done in some areas (of Port Harcourt). I will shutdown some parts of the town, indefinitely if need be.”

Wike said he contemplated total lockdown of the state but decided against it.

He vowed to deal with markets, traders and other business owners who disobey the shutdown order, stressing that such business places could be acquired by the state in public interest.
