have u checked ur analysis again? U even cited the fallen oil price which is d main stay of ur government and u still support a total grounding of the economy in addition. I know ur company will absolve those who will be thrown into the labour market

Bro, sacrificing the economy short term is our best chance of our recovery long term. The entire world is suffering, even Saudi Arabia whose economy is more dependent on oil is doing their best to flatten their curve. The impact of this pandemic will bite way harder than oil prices cos right now nobody is buying oil. Just a few days ago the US oil sold below 0$ the first time in history. Lockdown or not we will still sink into recession.

Oil prices are physical issues that can be remedied by production cuts (which OPEC already agreed to BTW) but you see this covid-19, it's an invisible enemy even your daddy GO cant fight.

Stay safe, stay home.

Check your statistics bro.

The information said 1,812 has recovered.

It couldn't have been 1000 infections last 2 weeks.

It takes a month for a patient to recover.

And the death rate is barely 3%. Do the maths.

Yes, the virus isn't a death sentence and no, 99 percent wont recover. The mortality rate for Spain, Italy and the UK is around 10% but that's not even why this is scary. Unlike malaria that one can get via mosquito bite, this virus is contracted through humans. Imagine 10% of one million persons dying from this? This is exactly why the lockdown is necessary, not because of the mortality rate but because of how easy shit can go south.

Humans are crazy stubborn, you can't guarantee people will adhere to the face mask and gloves rule.

The best way out until a vaccine comes is more testing and lockdown until the damn curve flattens.

P.s. the Nigerian health sector is so bad that if this goes south, the mortality rate will more than double that of Italy.

Stay safe, stay home.

Check the death rate in African countries not UK or Spain. Even Spain has partially lifted their shutdown. In Nigeria check the death rate n see. It's not 10 percent. You can't use one rule to judge everyone. People's cases are peculiar. Nigerians differ in biological make up from Britons b Spaniards

Lol u are a comedian, América had over two thousand death a day last week, so u are insisting we should cancel the lockdown and let people get the virus easily, you are really unbelievable, Italy tried that and see where they are now, US tried that and see where they are now, the only reason why China was able to fight this virus was because they implemented total lockdown and they followed it to the letter, foods can be given to the poor and less privileged for free, foods can be bought online and delivered to your doorsteps, but if u insist on canceling the lockdown then mark my word people will die like fowl, an average Nigerian don’t have access to good medication, an average Nigerian might be having an underlying health issue but may not know it. Be wise guy.

Nah... It is not about me. I speak the reality facing this nation!!! There is a limit to how far we can pretend.

Imposing lock down and curfews in the face of unpaid salaries, zero incomes, zero businesses, and zero palliatives, will never work in a third world nation where over 70% live from hand to mouth (Can't overemphasize this enough)!!!

As for Mrs. Gates' words, if she were 100% correct, as you choose to believe, then with a population of over 200 million, infection spread that started since early March (Almost 2 months), viral incubation period of 2-14 days (Max 21 - 28 days), we ought to have started seeing the following by now:

1. Widespread presentation of symptoms among the population (Lagos alone ought to have at least 500 people complaining of mild to severe symptoms).
2. Hospitalizations, especially ICUs, across the nation at an exponential rate (Lagos alone ought to have at least 500 in critical condition).
3. After 2 months of viral spread, death rate should or ought to be at minimum of 6 to 10 %.

I am not a betting man, but if you wish, I can stake you that even if left unchecked, we won't have up to a hundred deaths by June, not to speak of "Bodies littering the streets"!!!... If America didn't have bodies littering their streets at the massive rate of hospitalizations and critical conditions of their infected, how can Nigeria come to such when over 95% of our infected rarely move from isolation wards to ICUs??! That's even the few they have managed to confirm out of the numerous infected since March.

Good sir, you still don't want to smell the roses... grin

There is a clear difference between what is ideal (all you keep suggesting) and what is practicable!!!

Your nation is not ready to do any of those palliative approaches to effective lock down!!! Or were you in another nation during the last 14-day lockdown??! You think most Nigerians will bother to take a step out of their compounds if they have all they need to sustain themselves??!

Our leaders have been testing the waters since March... Banking on luck to see them through these dark days. They know as I do know that they can't provide basic necessities for over 100 million citizens for a protracted lock down!!!... Why and how is this so difficult for you to come to terms with?! Do you live elsewhere??!

Even if the virus were killing at the pace or rate of America and Italy, effective lock down still won't be tenable in Nigeria!!! Please, do some research... No need arguing blindly.

We will all die: that's for sure.

Let people decide how they want to go.

Hunger inside or Covid-19 outside.

It's that simple.
If it were just a matter of you dying, I doubt anyone else would care too much. The problem is that when you catch the virus and become a transmitter, you also endanger everyone else around you, which endangers everyone else around them, and so forth.

See this PSA video for how it works

A single selfish, reckless individual can act as the seed for an outbreak that ends up infecting thousands, as was the case with Patient 31 in the South Korean church outbreak.

The worst thing about this virus is that those who catch it actually seem to be at their most infectious just before they start to show symptoms, meaning they can act as spreaders even when they have no intention of doing such a thing. So please, even if you don't particularly value your own life, stay at home anyway, for the sake of the many other people your actions may end up putting in danger.

That must be why black people are dying disproportionately from the disease in both the UK and the USA!

It's amazing how quick many people are to embrace any old nonsense that makes them feel better about their bad decisions.

That’s what I’m sayin, we can make the govt provide all these things without stopping the lock down, bro in all honesty Naija don’t have what it takes, Naija is broke, people are shouting economy up and down but our economy have never been good, in fact Nigeria is about to face a terrible recession wether this lockdown continues or not, what we should be very much concerned about right now is survival, how to survive, do you think there will be enough beds to hold the sick people? How about the availability of face mask, people might use theirs more than once or start selling used ones, how about if the infected people without symptoms start selling in the market, you have no idea how easy this stuff can spread and with a country like Nigeria with bad health system, it’s too risky.. how many ventilators do you think we have, how many standard hospitals do we have.i hate Buhari, more than u can ever think but we should be finding solutions to the problem now and not adding to the problem, ending lockdown will only worsen the case, some people don’t even know the symptoms of corona virus, what happens when they get it... think man.

So what do want people to do?

Other governments planned years ahead for times like this. They secured food supply chains, structured their society to provide government safety net, invested in health care and established strong law enforcment agencies.

Nigerian leaders in the past failed to do any of this, Buhari in his 5 years has not done any of this.

Ordinary Nigerians, the ones who dont have mobile phones and live on less than $1 per day are suffering.

What do you want them to do? Die of corona, hunger, insecurity ? Which one

Corona Virus will not kill even half of what Biko haram, hunger, accidents and child birth mortality kills in a year.

The only reason our elites are concerned is unlike the factors I listed above that solely affect the poor, corona does not respect power oe authority.

So let for me, lets open the economy, we the masses have nothing left to loose.
