Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo on Friday said the state governor, Yahaya Bello was grossly misquoted in sections of the media on the application developed by the state government in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The governor had reportedly said the state government has developed an app that can be used to check if they have symptoms of COVID-19.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Fanwo said the state government designed a website for rapid testing of people with high or low risk. He said the website has now been upgraded to an app.

Instead of the condemnations that have trailed the governor’s statement, Fanwo, who described Bello as a digital governor said the governor deserves commendation for setting the pace in the use of technology in fighting the virus.

“He was grossly misquoted in certain sections of the media. What we first designed was a website for rapid test to determine people with high or low risk”.

” The website was later upgraded to be an app and that was what the Governor was referring to”.

“He is abreast of happenings in the COVID-19 Committee and as a digital Governor, he perfectly understood what he said. Kogi should be hailed for blazing the trail in that field”.
