It all depends on where you reside. I learnt Corolla vandalism is rampant in Lagos, Port Harcourt & Abuja. I reside in Akwa Ibom; Uyo to be precise. I have not heard of a corolla that has been stolen or vandalized in my region.

Personally, I will choose corolla over the 406 without blinking, no matter where i reside. Its resale value is second to none. I see some corollas being advertised on nairaland, and within a week, it has been sold out. Try that with a Peugeot. You go wait sote Jesus Christ go come grin

My advice for Corolla owners:
*Install alarm system.
*Buy steering or pedals lock
*Rent a well fenced and secured apartment
*Always pack your car in well lighted area at night.
*Install a tracker( just in case your car is snatched by gun point).

Thanks . One strong point you’ve made... resellability... I need something I can easily sell off at good value after a year.

Toyota. But with high risk of theft and vandalism. Serious heart tensions... Unlike the Peugeot.

Peugeot all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most amazing part is the Security.
Security of my peugeot is top notch.

I dey park my Lion anywhere anytime anyday.
Even if you burst my glass and steal my brain box, it will not work for your vehicle. You need my car keys to work together with the brainbox and BSI...so save yourself the stress leave my peugeot and go and steal a Korrolla!!!!!! ahahahahahahaah

In my formal area, there was a night battery thieves raded my neighborhood, they stole batteries from all cars except my Peugeot. The bastard theives could not open by bonnet because the bonet cable did not pass through the tyre wells..Peugeot passed the cable right below the dashboard straight to the engine bay, coming from a car that was produced 18years ago!

IMO, Peugeot dey over try.

Even a 307 IMO compares better in handling and other features. How do I know? I owned a 2009 Corolla 1.8L Auto LE. I also own a 307 EW10J4 5-speed manual 2.0L.

The Corolla needed serious pushing to attain 'somewhat' impressive speed. I journeyed with it between Abuja and Calabar, I was not impressed honestly. Engine oil: Oil keeps diminishing between oil change! So annoying especially if you use oils within the range of 5w-20(or 30). I experimented using 15w-50, oil diminishing reduced, but still happened, no sludge, no smoking. Corolla mechanics do need to update themselves on “oil control valves” and its functions. Many engines have died just because of this ignorance. Some even weld Camshafts, destroying the VVT functions that was intended. So sad!

Corolla resell ability is great. Spare parts however are annoyingly expensive. Every small thing “N20k” angry . Maintenance of a Corolla is not in anyway cheap!

The thief magnet thing is very true. I had my fair experience in 2018, gunpoint 7 pm in Abuja within township residential area!

Peugeot 307:
I drove mine from Lagos to Abuja. The performance and handling is far better than a Corolla. Acceleration is awesome and with ease. It takes bends at high speed better, without its nose dipping uncomfortably! No experience of diminishing oils even with 5w-30 grades. I used a single tank of fuel from Lagos to Abuja. N8,400 filled my tank, and tank was on red when I refilled. I did not use Air conditioning throughout the journey. And my average speed was 120km/h, roads are very bad in places, so I told myself 'no need'. Intra-town commuting, the fuel consumption has been unimpressive especially with the use of AC. Without AC, not that bad.

So far, there has not been thieves threat reported about the Peugeot or particularly about the 307. So . . . yaay! From enquiry, the spare parts on a 307 is interestingly affordable.

I am more at peace using it. For me, the only downside is intra-city fuel consumption, but for the power I get using it (138HP @ 6000 rev/m), no wahala!

The comparism isn't fair sha.A 406 should be compared with a Camry or Avalon,a corolla with maybe d 306 or 307.
The 406 is a very nice car, stable at high speeds, good ground clearance, cheap parts, spacious, strong suspension parts but unfortunately Nairaland gurus seem to hate Peugeots.
Personally used one for 5 yrs from zero miles and d only problem it had thruout d period was an incident of spoilt ECU and misfire originating from one injector.Never experienced d oft claimed electrical wahalas which our resident car talk ogas accuse Peugeots of.

The only good thing I know about d corolla is they claim anybody including a bicycle repairer can work on it.The parts are even costlier than that of d 406,very weak suspension parts, light like a paper kite on d highway grin.
Then U should also remember you will be within the gunsight all d armed robbers and car thieves in west Africa grin if U decide to use that corolla.
What about the fuel economy of both?

but, sometimes what appeals to u is more important that what others think

test drive both

whichever tickles ur fancy,go for it

Personally I will pick the Peugeot 406 a million times over that shitty Toyota corolla. If you decide to get the Peugeot 406 get the Peugeot car scanner and have a little background in electrical engineering or how to troubleshoot electrical issues and you should be good to go. That toyota corolla na thief magnet.

Well said.

Really?
just as the earlier comments, corolla has a very good Resell value while the Peugeot doesnt.
The above reason to me is their difference.
The peugeot has features that the Corolla doesn't have. For example
-automatic head lights that starts working once the sensor senses darkness
-the Airconditioner is also automatic. It switches on once the weather is hot.
- it also has rain sensor planted at the top front glass. It makes the wipers work once it starts raining.
- the car has a good ground clearance as earlier said. No wonder it speeds like their is no tomorow. If you were in the North you will remember that same car was used by government agencies.
-406 also has very good fuel economy, cheaper spare parts and you wont believe that after 4years of usage we changed the engine last year November at 100k.
-if I want a car I will go for it because of what I want in that car not mi ding how much it will cost at the end of the day.
For example Mercedes benz and BMWs both are car brands that you cant compare with other brands because of their technology's and exploits and yet their cars dont have Resell values.
Corolla is just a popular demand car that's all

People keep talking about resale value, and I am yet to understand the concept. When you buy what everyone else is buying, you'll sell it quickly. Find out what you like in a car a d buy the car. I bet you, if you buy a car you truly love, you'd be less inclined to sell it. Some Peugeot owners here will not sell, even of you made them a high offer.

In our current reality (post covid19 ) resale value should be at the fore front of any vehicle purchase

In my opinion, handling performance, the 307 beats the Corolla (LE and CE). I haven't driven the Corolla sport trim so I can not tell.

As for fuel economy, I used a single tank from Lagos to Abuja. I refilled when my tank was on red. N8,450 filled my tank @ N145 per liter. My experience of Intra-city consumption has however been on the high side especially with using AC.
