Samsung has it's own foundaries and they have patented their own 8nm FinFet process.

Qualcomm also have theirs as well as Texas Instruments.

TSMC are currently the best and they lead the way in the industry with their 7nm manufacturing process. It's so good that Qualcomm had to contract the making of their custom cores to them. They're currently working on a 5nm process innovation. Technology is growing fast while we are here arguing about rubbish things.

Technology is a world of its own with different permutations going on

System on a chip is the future now.

I doubt. I still believe that PCs will remain the king's of computing because of that CISC computing. SoCs aren't as powerful as PC processors.


But you never know. Technology is improving daily. Quantum computing/AI for now is the future.

Do you know that your laptop also uses SoC?


Let me explain, then we have ICH, then it was upgraded to PCH and now we have SoC where you cpu and pch are on the same chip, if pch is bad then cpu is gone too, if cpu is bad then pch is gone too.

You have core i series using soC chip and they are powerful.

It's a way forward, these guys are doing everything to reduce cost and reduce the component used on your laptop.

If you notice some laptops don't come with dvd rom, when was the last time I bought a CD to watch, I can't remember . The world is evolving and soC is the future.

I thought you were talking about RISC instruction set used in Smartphones. Silly me.

I agree. Putting all of the components on one substrate makes for better computing sha but it takes away flexibility as you cannot swap out things like ROM or RAM from your laptop. You can then only do that on Desktops.

Exactly that's why most hard core gamers use Desktop.

You can easily upgrade anything you want unlike laptop.

Even the use of an SSD rather than a HDD greatly improves processing power too.

I think that's why companies are refusing to put memory card slots in their phones because the memory card may not run as fast as the CPU or the internal UFS or EMMC chip inside the phone leading to lag.
