I am in extreme regrets and in utter frustration as to why I was born here. And this makes me honestly hate my parents for choosing to remain here despite having the exposure, means and capacity to escape this country for good, but nonetheless chose to stay here believing that things will get better. How unwise they were back then, that choice of theirs back then sentenced us now to a lifetime of frustration, failed dreams, avoidable risks and threats, unwarranted suffering and miserable lifes. My parents failed me, I will make sure not to fail my children.
Since I was born 30years ago, not once have I experienced uninterrupted power supply in this country. for 30yrs it has been the same exact excuse of shortage of gas or low water levels. for 30yrs o. if since the time of my parents it did not get better, why will I believe it will be better now?
since I was born, all I know is all our leaders, governors, chairmen or even councillors we're busy living large in mansions, driving expensive cars etc while 99% of the masses were suffering, and it is the masses that put them there o. what an irony right?
SInce I was born, everything from getting a job, to getting healthcare, to quality education to water has always been impossible. how then do we survive in this country? no honestly, HOW? do people even know that the wealth in which our presidents and senators use in buying those expensive SUV's supposed to be for the masses? do you know that we suppose to go on rampage and revolt because of the suffering we are going through, those leaders supposed to be afraid of the masses not the other way around. do you know it is not normal to praise or go and beg any so called leader? you elected him to actually serve you and your interest. we literally don't know our rights in this country.
If it is about the present day, I believe it is even worse than before. In my location now, they bring light for 10 minutes and off it goes for 4 hours straight then it is back again and the circle continues, such that you only end up getting a total of 2 hours light in 24hrs, mind you the weather has been consistently hot for the past 3 months now. coupled with the lockdown and expensive food in the market, I ask again, how do we survive and prosper in this country?
Lastly, let us not deceive ourselves, don't even lie to yourself like our parents lied to themselves that Nigeria will get better. it will never happen. If you look at the facts, No single power station has been built and put to use since the 1970s, also no single massive public water supply project has been built since then, we still don't have a single standard public hospital in this country up till now. research centers? zero. public schools? zero. is this country really created for humans to Live in? So if all these things are missing, are you honestly not lying to yourself if you think that things are going to be better? Not in the next 50 years, by which time you have already gotten old and your children has grown to find themselves in this same mess. please don't do that to your children. This message is free of charge and I will urge any well meaning individual who loves himself and his future to LEAVE THIS COUNTRY IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS. Trust me, Nigeria has no future. nothing good at least.

This is the main reason why I hold a grudge against my parents. Back then in the 80s and 90s, they travelled to this Yankee like say it was the easiest thing ever. some of them were even offered juicy jobs there, but for some reason, they believed the lies of the previous regimes and came back home. Now 30yrs later, things have only gotten worse.mtseeeew. the unfortunate thing now is that to get Visa to almost any country is one of the most difficult things ever. nevertheless I will Never give up, my children will not grow up in this country. haba

I have vowed myself that if I can't leave this country they call Nigeria I would get a vasectomy. I would never bring an innocent soul into this shithole. Op this country is even good now. In the next 10 to 15 years Nigeria of today would be paradise compared to what is coming. Nigeria of the future would be just one massive sea of poverty and hopelessness. I would advice anyone who can get out now to do so. It would be so bad that even getting to another African country from Nigeria would be almost impossible and mind you the population would be double.

I mean during Obasanjo's tenure, Nigeria was shit but Nigeria then was like heaven compared to today. We had a middle class, we had Nigerians in the diaspora coming back home to set up businesses. GDP was growing 10 percent yearly despite low oil prices but what do we have today? A shrinking middle class that is less than 3 percent of the total population. An economy in recession. It's gonna get worst. Just find ways to leave.

Your story isn't something new under the sun. Someone said same here few years ago: https://www.nairaland.com/3210525/Nigeria-finished-me and more will say same years to come. Let's assume your parents didn't know better or were very optimistic, now is the time to change the narrative by not doing what they did so that your child won't come on NL to say same about you. After all, the child will say there were many routes of migrating abroad compared to his time (just like there were many during your parents' time). My advice is simple: you are already 30. Start planning your way out in a legal manner so that you will face less obstacles to settling down in your new country and garner time to attain a new citizenship before procreating. It takes approximately five years to get PR in most countries (excluding years of schooling) except you are highly skilled then it gets shorter.


Trust me when I say complaining won't solve the problem (it has never solved any). Just start planning and execute. On twitter, I read about someone who had same hopes as your parent when he returned after studies abroad only to be angry at the country's situation and left afterwards for his children sake. The man now has a green card (he got it before the ban by Trump) and is on the path to citizenship. He is in his mid-30s. The good thing about relocating is that your children will have options as they will be able to work/start businesses in most countries across the globe because of their strong citizenship. What I envisage is when children of the current folks who are fleeing to Canada graduate from the university, most will take up plum jobs in Nigeria due to their stronger education qualifications and experience and can explore the business opportunities better because due to years of quality exposure. Just remember, complaining won't solve the problem (at least you are complaining when you're 30. Imagine you started when you're 35? ) . Start exploring your chances.

I have a neighbor of mine in his late fifties , he told me how he had so many opportunities of leaving Nigeria in the eighties but turned it down severally because then Nigeria is working and better off than this present time,he is seriously regretting it now because to leave is not easy now.
But please as many that will leave soonest please be good ambassadors of Nigeria so as not to make it more harder for Nigerians who will wish to leave later on

many felt Nigeria go better. Today their kids are earning 20k to 40k salary. Cant leave parents home. While those that left even those whose kids no dey work are collecting benefits every month and living good life. My uncles son wey drop out for school in Germany is now a fitness instructor. Earning about 15 euros per hour. Was in Indonesia last year for holiday and scuba diving.

I just calculated the income i received this month after taxes. Your boy netted N1,700,000 (6,200 CAD). I'm not even doing a professional job. I don't have a boss. I sleep and wake up when i want. I go to work when i want. I can take a month off ( not any time soon tho ) and return and still continue making money.

One caveat tho is that i worked every single day to make this. Day and Night. But i enjoy the job so it's nothing to me. Plus making good money is so addicting. I don't anticipate i'll clear this much after tax going forward but i can still net over 1 mill a month if i choose to.
