Just In!!! COVID-19: Abia Issues New Directive To Arrest And Prosecute People Not Wearing Facemask In Public Places

IgbereTV reports that the Abia State Goverment has directed Security operatives, State and Local Government Enforcement Teams to apprehend and hand over persons not wearing Facemask in public places in Abia to Abia Mobile Courts on Covid-19 (which operates in various zones of the state) for prosecution.

In a statement made available to IgbereTV by the Secretary to Abia State Government/ Chairman, Abia State Covid-19 Committee, Barr. Chris Ezem, the Government gave the directive after observing that "majority of Abians and even those on essential duties move round our towns and cities without wearing their face masks, thereby violating extant laws on the use of face masks in the State."

"The general public are advised to act accordingly", the statement read.
