Futuragetty: Just keep an open mind for the future because you’ll get it then when you’re at sunset like me. Many of us are back and some have made very significant investments here that’s paying off handsomely. This is not to discourage you or anyone from traveling out. It’s not up to me. My self assigned task on here is to balance out the equation for those that don’t want to or cannot afford to travel out. Nigeria is not all that bad. I’ve seen both sides of the equation and I can report authoritatively. If Nigeria can solve two things, electricity and security then you’ll see an influx of returnees and foreigners that’ll be unbelievable. 1 Like 1 Share |

EgunMogaji2: Sorry but that's poor delusion. Even within the EU, citizens of economically weak countries like Romania and Bulgaria ( these countries are miles ahead of Nigeria in every aspect) are migrating to more better countries like Germany and UK. So its way more complicated than you think. Assuming Nigeria fix it security and power issues, and? (Most African countries have achieved that) how about critical sectors like health, basic infrastructure - transportation and clean water? Need I remember you that half of it's citizens are living in absolute poverty? My point is Nigeria is sinking a ship ( it doesn't gives me any pleasure saying this about my fatherland). We've got to be honest and stop latching on some BS anecdotes. Let facts and figures speak for themselves. The country is in a pathetic situation. A lot of youth are frustrated and see emigration as a viable solution. And millions who left won't come back because they are pretty much glad they have finally dump the shit hole. 4 Likes |

Gerrard59:You mean purchasing power parity right? yeah I Know about it. And yes when you are in the u.s you spend in dollars, so what point are you trying to make? Of course you will pay tax, pay rent, and so forth, but remember even after paying all these things in Nigeria, you will still never enjoy 24hrs electricity a day, you Will still go to our substandard hospitals and schools, you will still not have running water in your house. once you show some little signs of success, you will definitely be kidnapped or robbed. And yes in the west, you spend in dollars, but you also forgot that you earn in dollars too, and you earn heavily for the most basic of jobs like plumbing, mechanic etc so which ever way you look at it, human life is extremely better in the west. don't even think that we are living in this country, we are merely surviving and suffering 2 Likes |

LOl Nigerians can be ignorant of things though. I keep hearing people say that the west has too many taxes, bills are expensive etc You think you don't pay expensive taxes here in nija? why do you think everyday products are now more expensive than before? why do you think you buy petrol at 140/liter instead of 65nairajust some years ago? doesn't a jerrican of kerosene used to be 2000naira? why is it 4500naira now? even a packet of Maggie used to be just 200naira. If you earn 50,000 naira as salary today, do you know that your real salary supposed to be in the range of 70,000? but excessive taxes and deductions reduce it to that 50k you see. you are been deducted for housing, health care, union nonsense etc yet did the government provide you with any housing? Forget it jor, you are been heavily taxed here too, but the difference is that in Nigeria your tax is been stolen and looted, but in the west the taxes are really been spent on the people. 7 Likes |

cronsberg: I see how you rationalize things. You filter and silo people that have a differing viewpoints into cutsie little containers like “ignorance”. Okay got it Petrol at N123.50/125.00 is the cheapest in any country that I’ve driven in. Heck of a fantastic deal. |

Re: Nigeria Is A Failed Miserable Country by EgunMogaji2: 1:28am On May 02, 2020 |
Futuragetty: It’s an individual thing. I belong to a group of returnees that believe in Nigeria and feel that we’re better off here. I for one for sure I’m living my best life here. Again, an individual thing. Heck even foreigners are here in droves. Practically the Indians have cornered the borehole market here in Ibadan at least. In one of my sojourns on the outskirts of Ibadan I ran into a Filipino couple that owns hectares of farm land of vegetables. They see the potential and opportunity of Nigeria. As an example. As I always say, Nigeria has an open border unlike North Korea so anyone is free to seek greener pastures. I know the values and expectations that I have off Nigeria. This is one of the reasons why I support those that choose to stay or are not able to emigrate but are making it here. 2 Likes |

Gerrard59: All of this is an individual thing. My parameters of dealing with Nigeria is multilayered. I took a calculated decision not to do any business that requires massive power needs that I have to depend on NEPA. Solar power is free after initial outlay. Not sure why many complain of power when solar is available. Security is another thing. Just as in the USA, crime occurs everywhere. So one just have to be vigilant. I’m sorry that you have to deal with these things but my travel and exposure indicates that Nigeria is not unique in that regards. |

EgunMogaji2:I understand your points and you have chosen you words wisely. I have the same values and hope in Nigeria, but as things are at the moment its best for any unemployed graduate with no job at sight, to either get off and further his studies broad, explore the world a little bit and save up just like you did. then He can finally come back to our motherland certainly to invest. 2 Likes |

themaestro08: Are you new to this section? You should know that there are certain individuals not worth engaging at all and that deluded old man you're quoting is certainly one of them. A man who spent his entire youth abroad for obvious reasons, made some fvcked up decisions which landed him back in Nigeria in old age. Now he spends his lonely life on the travel section trying to convince everyone that Nigeria is Heaven on earth 10 Likes |

Asquare84: Listen dude, all I said is facts - take it or leave it! Any Tom, Dick or Harry can ejaculate and produce children .. that doesn't automatically qualify them for "respect". He is not my father so why must I mince my words? I doubt his own children respect him sef since they all went with their mothers after his 3 different divorce proceedings from 3 different women in the US The dude is in Nigeria right now all ALONE in old age as he has no other alternative, holding on to nairaland as a Crutch for his pathetic existence. All this is public information that those of us well experienced in this forum can attest to. 8 Likes |
