Sorry but that's poor delusion.

Even within the EU, citizens of economically weak countries like Romania and Bulgaria ( these countries are miles ahead of Nigeria in every aspect) are migrating to more better countries like Germany and UK. So its way more complicated than you think.

Assuming Nigeria fix it security and power issues, and? (Most African countries have achieved that) how about critical sectors like health, basic infrastructure - transportation and clean water? Need I remember you that half of it's citizens are living in absolute poverty?

My point is Nigeria is sinking a ship ( it doesn't gives me any pleasure saying this about my fatherland). We've got to be honest and stop latching on some BS anecdotes. Let facts and figures speak for themselves. The country is in a pathetic situation.

If you earn 50,000 naira as salary today, do you know that your real salary supposed to be in the range of 70,000? but excessive taxes and deductions reduce it to that 50k you see. you are been deducted for housing, health care, union nonsense etc yet did the government provide you with any housing? Forget it jor, you are been heavily taxed here too, but the difference is that in Nigeria your tax is been stolen and looted, but in the west the taxes are really been spent on the people.

I belong to a group of returnees that believe in Nigeria and feel that we’re better off here. I for one for sure I’m living my best life here. Again, an individual thing. Heck even foreigners are here in droves. Practically the Indians have cornered the borehole market here in Ibadan at least. In one of my sojourns on the outskirts of Ibadan I ran into a Filipino couple that owns hectares of farm land of vegetables. They see the potential and opportunity of Nigeria. As an example.

As I always say, Nigeria has an open border unlike North Korea so anyone is free to seek greener pastures.

I know the values and expectations that I have off Nigeria.

This is one of the reasons why I support those that choose to stay or are not able to emigrate but are making it here.

Honestly, I have done similar calculations here and it's largely the same. You paid taxes for what you are currently paying your personal fees for and at the same time taxes. Which implies you are double taxed living in Nigeria. As I'm, I run generators on daily basis (personal and business use), pay all sort of taxes/levies, cannot sleep with both eyes closed due to the prevailing insecurity worsened by the lockdown, doing God's grace for sickness etc. If there was constant electricity, one wouldn't have worried too much. But no constant electricity coupled with the low purchasing power of the populace implies that there's a limit to doing things on scale as an entrepreneur.

All of this is an individual thing.

My parameters of dealing with Nigeria is multilayered.

I took a calculated decision not to do any business that requires massive power needs that I have to depend on NEPA. Solar power is free after initial outlay. Not sure why many complain of power when solar is available.

Security is another thing. Just as in the USA, crime occurs everywhere. So one just have to be vigilant.

I’m sorry that you have to deal with these things but my travel and exposure indicates that Nigeria is not unique in that regards.

I have the same values and hope in Nigeria, but as things are at the moment its best for any unemployed graduate with no job at sight, to either get off and further his studies broad, explore the world a little bit and save up just like you did. then He can finally come back to our motherland certainly to invest.
