Hi Op, thanks for this info.
pls I'm applying for a Master's program in Hannover,.
I'll really like to know how life is over there, d possibility of getting a part time job as a student. I can handle d racist stuff.. All I need is d rough truth about the state if you know anything about it.
Finally, I was told that if your studies is not IT inclined, you'll find it difficult to get a job after graduation, how true is this, as I'm planning to study International Horticulture. Thanks

I don’t know much about life in Hanover. I have only visited there a few times and I found it very boring. Nothing happens there. It has a lot of students and you can get to other cities like Kassel with your student ticket I think.

About not getting a job if you don’t study IT, that is not true. In Germany you have to work in the field you studied. You cannot study pharmacy and work in a bank. That’s also why not every German goes to University. After secondary school, you already know your IQ level and what you can do, then you focus on that. Regardless of what you studied you can get a job in your field. If you intend to change fields, you must study what you’re changing to.

OP, I love your thread, kudos!.

I don't like when I read such threads like this and it's only filled with the positive sides of living in Germany, you already highlighted everything!!. Living in Germany is good, but there are many disadvantages that are rarely talked about especially being a foreign student.

Anyway, I was in Berlin last just for a day, I didn't have time to explore the city. The only thing I liked was the diversity, it was similar to being in Frankfurt cause I've lived there, hopefully I will get to explore Berlin one day grin.

Yes Frankfurt is very diverse as well. I love that city. Only thing I don’t like about Frankfurt is that people there are very classist and arrogant. It’s all about where you work and how much you make. The most important question there is “what do you do for a living?”. I hope you explore Berlin next time smiley

Life in Berlin is very interesting. Lots of psychos and hipsters. Very crazy but exciting culture. They always say Berlin is not Germany and I believe it. You can see someone so good looking but once you get close to them: BOOM... they’re mental.

There’s also a lot drugs and partying. Regular sex parties. We have the biggest club in Europe and possibly in the world called “Berghain”. Even celebrities have visited there. People die to get in. Sometimes people stab themselves with bottles when they get rejected at the door. It is a very vibrant sex club. People f*cking and doing drugs. Some stay there for 3 days no sleep, partying. There’s also KitKat (a sex fetish club) and many others.

Berlin is everything that Sodom and Gomorrah left behind. Nudity is welcomed. There are nudist parks and lakes. Also saunas. The gym I go to has a sauna where everyone is naked, boys and girls. You see EVERYTHING. There’s so much freedom in Berlin and nothing shocks them. You can walk around with a tree on your head and identify as a chicken, nobody cares.

It is a working city but not as serious as other German cities. You can never be bored. Also very international, you can live there 10 years and not speak German. Even in bars and restaurants they speak English. Lots of Australians, Brits and Americans. 80% of my friends are black Americans. My accent changed when I moved to Berlin.

Most restaurants don’t offer tap water, no matter how much you spend on food. You must buy water. They also don’t accept card payments in most places. Must pay with cash. Oh and they don’t give a damn how you feel, they are direct. Someone can walk up to you and ask if you want a Mouth Action. Boys and girls.

There’s also a lot of young suicides due to drug overdose. You can drink alcohol in public. On Sundays in summer, there’s a park called “Mauer park”. There are usually over 40,000 people there chilling, live bands playing, markets, a huge karaoke, do whatever you want. You’ll also find lots of Artists as it’s an artist city.

It is also the home of the gays in Europe. The gays here are not to be played with. They’re treated with top priority and love. The hardest thing here is finding a flat or room to rent, because everyone wants to live in Berlin.
lol.. olympiastadion berlin..

One of my favorite football stadium

You've talked a lot about the fun part of living in Germany, we all deserve to have as much fun as we want, but how would you describe Germany for the business and career inclined people.

Would a black man be allowed to own a business? What do you think would be the fate of a black immigrant business man? Or a career man who wants to climb up the ladder in his field?

I believe I talked about job/career and the struggles of black people here. You can own a business. There are many black business owners. Some have shops, some do other businesses. There are also restaurants owned by black people. Like Jamaican restaurant, Nigerian/Ghanaian restaurant, Eritrean restaurant... if you can afford it and you can get the license, go for it. You just have to follow the rules of running a business like everyone else.

As for climbing the ladder, Germany is not designed for Black people or foreigners to prosper. You can be comfortable and successful but you will not be up there with the Germans. UK is better than Germany when it comes to successful black people. Things are changing, thanks to the black Americans coming in. The Black Americans are calling them out on their racism steadily and they don’t tolerate nonsense. It is not a land where dreams come true. It is a place where dreams can be pursued.

I don’t understand. You want to get a job with a 6 month visit visa? That is not possible. You cannot work with a visit visa and nobody will hire you. There’s no manipulation in regards to that. Only if you intend to apply for Asylum, then you’d have to tell them why you need Asylum.

I have not lived in Canada. I have only visited. So I cannot give a genuine opinion about life in Canada as it compares to Germany. I can definitely tell you that Canadians are helplessly polite and say “sorry” every minute. Canada is also cleaner. Germany seems to be safer and richer. They both have good health care system. Only barrier would be language in Germany. Otherwise, I would say it’s a safe haven

OP,

It seems you are not aware of a 6 months visa arrangement from German governement with the intention of attracting workers all over the world to work in Germany.

This is how it works :

After meeting necessary requirements as stated on their immigration website, you apply for the months work visa But you must have blockchained €4500 which represents the resources required to takecare of yourself in Germany while looking for the work. The money is calculated at a monthly upkeep expenses of €750 per month.

If you are able to secure a job within the 6months, you can apply for work parmit and start your life in Germany from there.

This law had been for some years now but recently reviewed (March 2020) to accommodate unskilled labours.

Frankfurt is the second international city, next to Berlin. It is a finance city with lots of bankers and finance workers. People there work A LOT. The main train station is very ugly and ghetto. That whole area is full of immigrants hustling, especially Arabs. You’ll see a black person every 5 minutes. There’s a red light district close to the station with lots of hookers and rough looking guys. I feel unsafe walking there.

The city is generally okay and safe but I don’t consider it beautiful. Only the city center is beautiful. Lots of tall buildings. You can easily get a job there as a student. It has good connections to Damstadt, Hanau, Wiesbaden, Stuttgart and Cologne. There’s also a Hessen ticket that allows you to travel around cities in Hessen at a cheap price. You’ll also find lots of airport workers and black people working in hospitals as nurses.

For some reason, there are lots of young international tourists. I don’t know why they come there. You’ll find them in hostels. I personally find the black people living in Frankfurt to be very corny and untrustworthy.

To be frank OP is there any agency that loans money to incoming international students tho the person would have to.pay after an agreed period

You mean before you arrive? I don’t think so. After you arrive, you can get financial assistance from your University but that’s for food and welfare about €150 or so. There’s also something called “Baförg” that loans money to students. I don’t know much about that. I got help from my University a few times when I was broke and there are organizations that cater to international students. They get lots of donations for charity in that aspect. Example is the Catholic community.

I’m not familiar with that. I used to know some Nigerian students in Gottingen that studied agriculture. Most of them did internship abroad. Agriculture in Germany is booming cos the food products here are home grown. Supermarkets like Edeka, Lidl, REWE, Netto, Aldi, all have their own supplies specific to their stores. So I’m guessing there are good jobs there.

People who want to come to Germany should read that second paragraph well because it's 100% the truth. I'm in the system so I know this country isn't designed for us at all. Their laws alone, some of them don't make sense especially when it comes to renewing your residence permit.

I’ve never been to Bochum. Dortmund is where you find all the Owerri boys. It’s like Imo state people had meeting and decided to send their brothers to Dortmund. It’s a really beautiful city and I love it. Calm, they love football, lots of Turks there as well. The black people there are business oriented, they have businesses back home in Nigeria where they send things to.

I wouldn’t say there’s a “best” city to live in West Germany. The west is a great place to live in and most of the cities have similarities in behavior. I’d definitely recommend Cologne, Dortmund, Bonn and if you want to see posh Germans that are clean, good looking, nice, rich and happy, go to Dusseldorf. Dusseldorf is also where you can apply for Canadian and UK visa. Duisburg is okay but it can be boring.

You are very corect! Frankfurt has alot of bankers and financial workers because the European Central Bank is located in Frankfurt, i think the building is the tallest building in Frankfurt...
Although sincerely speaking I haven't yet visited Frankfurt but we learnt alot about Frankfurt in my B2 Kurs, infact it was a topic on its own...offcours you know there are two Frankfurts in Germany, but the one the world knows about and we are talking about is called Frankfurt am Main( derived from a River called River Main) while the other is called Frankfurt Oder (also derived from the River Oder).
Frankfurt and Munich are listed in a prominent study: The 10 cities in the world with the highest Quality of Life ( 6 European cities took 6 positions, including Vienna)..
The Frankfurt Airport is also the 2nd Largest in the whole of Europe( very sophisticated airport).. My wife landed there last year as she joined me here, her eyes were totally wowed...

I have been a silent observer of most German threads here, since I stumbled on a thread some weeks ago, and I must say it's been very eye-opening so far. My knowledge of the country has been improved and I'm also considering moving there for my master's when I'm done with my degree here.

I have read a few things here about Potsdam and it's proximity to Berlin, but I would like to know more. Thank you.

If you're living in Germany and you can also help me out, I would appreciate it.

There are quite a few Africans playing in local clubs and small teams. I don’t know much about football but I see these Igbo boys here who have big dreams of playing in a big German club. Germans are VERY passionate about football and most matches end up in fights, so there’s a lot of racism in that area as well. Get ready to be called names on field.

Yes Potsdam is close to Berlin but pls if you have another choice, forget Potsdam. It is very racist and for some reason, black people have been disappearing there. They usually say it is suicide but we know what’s up. Most black people I know, study in Potsdam but live in Berlin. It’s a little over 1 hour to get there from Berlin by train.
