You mean before you arrive? I don’t think so. After you arrive, you can get financial assistance from your University but that’s for food and welfare about €150 or so. There’s also something called “Baförg” that
loans money to students. I don’t know much about that. I got help from my University a few times when I was broke and there are organizations that cater to international students. They get lots of donations for charity in that aspect. Example is the Catholic community.
Yeah, before one arrives. Mehn 8k euros for block account isn't funny at all.

Yes Potsdam is close to Berlin but pls if you have another choice, forget Potsdam. It is very racist and for some reason, black people have been disappearing there. They usually say it is suicide but we know what’s up. Most black people I know, study in Potsdam but live in Berlin. It’s a little over 1 hour to get there from Berlin by train.

Hmm.

Thank you. I'm trying to narrow down my city options and Berlin has been top of the list so far grin

Maybe I'll change my mind, I don't know, depending on the information I get as time goes on. I'm still an open book.

Pls don’t do this. The purpose of this post is not to discourage anyone from coming to Germany. It is to share experiences with credible details and facts and leave people to make their decision. I’ve been in the UK many times, in fact UK is my second home. There are more black people suffering in the UK than in Germany. I saw about 5 people squatting in one small room in UK. They won’t even flush toilet when they pee cos they’re saving water bill.

There’s also a lot of pressure in UK. People just cover their suffering with nice clothes and fake lifestyle. UK is great for a career optimist because they have evolved more than Germany in terms of racism and equality. You can easily find lots of working class black people and people who identify as Black Brits. In Germany you’ll never really be considered German even with a German passport. THAT is what makes UK better.

Germany is safer, richer, calmer, cleaner, better organized, better health care, better social benefits for everyone. Do you know Germany offered €5000 each to freelance artists and musicians who could not work during this Coronavirus pandemic? Both foreigners and Germans got the money. UK would never.

Germany does everything by the law and books, that’s what makes it hard for people without papers to succeed by hustling. UK takes people’s money for education and sneakily throws them out after studying.

If you are a career person that wants to be the best and be recognized as a black person, UK is for you. If you want to be comfortable, get a job that pays what you work for and be able to afford everything you need, Germany is for you.
If you want to be around more black people and experience less racism, UK is for you. If you want to feel at home, UK is for you.

all I can see is Exaggeration and contradictions In your post! Where did u see many blacks living in one room in Uk and managing water? Please tell me! All are lies! Even if it happens it is those who are illegal immigrants that could suffer such fates. The health and education sector in UK is second to non! The transportation system is also lovely! Let call a spade a spade! Germany is very good country but it isn’t meant for the black man to prosper! Most students that studied in Germany eventually migrated out of Germany to another country just because they were underrated in their place of work that’s to say if you are even employed! Don’t get me wrong Germany is cool but it meant for the White skinned person!

Also UK don’t chase student out after study again! They have reintroduced their post study visa stuff! After your studies you have Two years to hustle and look for job!

What about Canada
Canada just started opening up to immigrants. It wasn't definitely built for the black people just like the USA. The USA is far ahead though. There are countless successful black Americans including several black CEOs of fortune 500 companies.

However, dreams can be achieved here in Canada. We are not yet at the level of the US. It would take some time, but it's a work in progress.

Exaggeration and contradiction? Do you or have you lived in Germany? Pls tell us your experience. Don’t just tell people not to move to Germany and argue about what someone else has experienced. Tell us your story. That’s what we want.

You are also repeating what I’ve said. I said numerous times that Germany is not designed for black people to prosper. I listed the pros and cons. I have been as raw and honest as possible. Even some people who live in Germany agreed. You don’t just get to show up and discredit what I said without sharing your experience or giving credible details.
This is not a Germany vs UK competition. It is about telling us what you experienced as a black person living there.

There are quite a few Africans playing in local clubs and small teams. I don’t know much about football but I see these Igbo boys here who have big dreams of playing in a big German club. Germans are VERY passionate about football and most matches end up in fights, so there’s a lot of racism in that area as well. Get ready to be called names on field.

I'm less bothered about racism as long as it doesn't involve represive violence smiley

In Germany there’s something called “Schufa”. It is a fact sheet that checks your credit worthiness. As soon as you’re registered in Germany and open a bank account, a Schufa account is created automatically in your name. Every contract, loan, debt and financial services you partake in, goes into your Schufa record.

If you want to get a contract of any kind, a loan, or rent an apartment, they first check your Schufa to see if you have a good credit record. If you fail to pay your bills in time, are in debt, or have a financial issue of any kind, it affects your score and you will be rejected with a bad Schufa score.

For example, I had a dispute with my previous mobile company and it affected my score. I also had a debt in 2014 which I’m paying back, now my score is bad. I cannot get any kind of contract and I cannot rent a flat of my own because Landlords require a Schufa before renting to you. Yes, it is that bad. This is not a white or black thing, it affects EVERYONE.

Crazy thing is, Schufa is a private company but they have SO much power to ruin your life. Your score will improve as you pay your bills in time and settle your debts. Even after you pay, it remains in your record for up to 4 - 6 years. Many Germans are ruined because of their bad Schufa score, even the rich ones.

Germans are also morons when it comes to following the law. It can be a good and bad thing. They are not they type to fight for their rights. They rather suffer in silence and do what they’re told. In Germany, customer service is so bad and rude. The worst customer service I’ve seen anywhere I’ve been to. Whether in offices, restaurants, bars, and Germans don’t complain.

I remember traveling with Flixbus in the summer and it was so hot. The driver wouldn’t turn on the AC. We were sweating and choking but nobody could complain. I stood up and went to confront the driver. They were all shocked. The driver moaned and finally turned on the AC and they were all happy. But none of them had courage to complain.

Germans are not freedom fighters like the USA. Everything goes over here. You’ll find some protests from time to time. Germans mind their business. You can be getting beat up on the street and Germans will walk by. You can attack someone in the bus and Germans will not blink an eye. They’ll just sit still and do nothing. Only rarely will someone react. They are also grumpy, especially the old people.

Let’s talk dating and relationship. It is hard to date a German. They are very unstable. Dating them is like walking on broken bottles. They are very emotional, both men and women. They are also very insecure. A little complaint can make them stay away from you.

You can be dating a German and you’re so in love, the day they cook for you and you complain about the salt in the food, the relationship is over. They don’t want to be told that something they did is faulty. They try so hard to be perfect and can’t take criticism. Both men and women. I’ve always said that Germans are made for Germans. Even the other foreigners would tell you.

They are also love struck. When they love you, they can do anything for you. They don’t care about what anybody says about you. They will shut the world out of their ears to be with you. Once they say it is over, NOTHING will change their mind. Don’t even bother apologizing.

Their women are so tough and independent. They don’t expect you to take care of them. They are also very hardworking and smart. They love to learn about your culture but don’t ever tell them they’re not doing something right. It will ruin everything. Both men and women are naturally hot tempered. In Germany we call it “Schnauze”.

Dating them or having them as friends can be helpful because they’re very well informed about the law and can help you with all the paperwork and German bureaucracy. They are also very shy people. It’s not that they’re unfriendly, they just don’t know what to say. So they rather stay on their own. Once you see one German, you’ve seen them all. They have very similar attitudes.

Friendships in Germany. It is very hard to make friends here. A lot of people are lonely, especially foreigners. That is because Germans don’t make new friends. They have the same friends from childhood until the day they die. They rarely make new ones and even if you become friends with them, it is hard to maintain the friendship.

You can make a German friend today and chat and laugh, they see you on the street tomorrow and pretend like they’ve never seen you before. Even in your class as a student, you barely talk to your classmates or keep them as friends. That’s why you find most groups are just all foreigners chilling and no Germans.

It is also hard to make friends in Berlin even as it’s a young vibrant city. There are regular meet-ups and activities but still it’s hard. Everyone complains about it. There are Facebook groups and apps to meet people but it’s not easy. The easiest way is to download the Meet-up app and join activities in your area. Also be sure to talk to people, rather than wait for them to talk to you.

Don’t be that loud black person that makes everyone laugh. It might seem funny at first but they’ll never take you seriously. You’ll just be a clown entertaining them. They respect you when you’re not accessible. It makes them curious about you.

Also know that you have to pay for your own food and drinks no matter how close you are to your friends. Also don’t offer to pay, they find it strange. With other foreigners, it can be okay. The day I cooked food and invited my German flat mates to eat with me from the same plate, they thought I was crazy. They were so shocked. Your friends can eat a bowl of rice in front of you and not ask if you’re hungry. There are a few exceptions though.

Health care is very good. Everyone must have health insurance. After I arrived Germany I had an operation and my insurance covered it. No questions asked. I’ve had about 4 surgeries and all were covered by insurance to the last penny. Only thing I paid for was the hospital stay about €10 per night.

It is better to have public health insurance than private ones because they cover more things and once you go from public to private, it is hard to return to public. Most Nigerian students always choose private insurance because it is cheaper and they think they’ll never get sick. I find it stupid. Some of them have had health emergencies and their private insurance failed them. Public is the best.

Also be ready to sit and wait for the doctor for 2 hours before they attend to you. I always wonder if the doctors sit in their office and play PlayStation while patients are waiting. Also, if you want to see a doctor or specialist, be ready to wait up to 3 months for an appointment. Sometimes even 6 months before you get an appointment just for general enquiries. Oh and they don’t give a damn if you’re dying, you must wait. If your case is an emergency, go to the ER.
