Misplaced priority undecided

You should be complaining to seun about the useless threads gracing nairaland's front page everyday.

As a mother I doubt if you can truly support your kids surfing nairaland's FP.

You're here discussing about threads that has been tagged 18+ and you think you're wise?

I voluntarily moderate the Business section in my spare time. This is not a job I'm paid to do, but I am happy to do to help create something valuable.

What are you doing to create value in your community? Why haven't you complained if you cared so much? Why must other people bring the change you want? There are always volunteers needed. Why can't you volunteer your time into bringing the change that you are so passionate about? If a new country was created and everyone thought and behaved like you
- will that country prosper or deteriorate?

This topic is a misplaced priority for you, but we all have different gifts and passions. I'm focusing on the section where I have passion and experience. If you have passion for the FP, step up your game and put your time where your mouth is.

This is a digital community. What is true of little communities tends to be true for big communities.

I can't tell you what harm it has done, because I do not know everything. Seun the owner of the site stated his reasons for banning the topic, so I am putting out an open question to get the views/opinions (hopefully constructive, actionable ones) of users like you.

If you are concerned about the homepage, please volunteer to moderate it as they are always looking for moderators.

Watching
I won't tell you not to close any thread, you own this forum but consider this, sofascore now has a Nigeria community where people can interact also come on Twitter Ng where betting is bigger than the whole nairaland business thread. You will lose traffic besides we all know nairaland is just a small twitter for Nigeria that most news that trends here are all happenings from Twitter. So your loss Bro lipsrsealed

Talking about Seun point of wanting to lock those threads it's baseless, come to think of it "luring people who stumble upon a thread" is a matter of individual choices, i have been stumbling on currency exchange even though alot of scam goes on there but no one will cry for that section to be closed. Remember every individual has a right to choose what they want and what they want to use their hard earned money for. This is not the only place you see people talking about betting or forex, in between that football betting thread already lost its glory and not generating traffic like it used to even b4 the pandemic. The choice is still for you guys to make.

I dare Him to close down the threads. Why would any sane man sat down to type (according to you) a constructive opinion on how another man should handle his business??

Ask lots of users what's going on in FP they don't know cuz most of them already bookmarked those thread(s). Some are even addicted to it. Maybe seun should close the thread and set them free.

Someone already mentioned some alternatives. If you know you know.

Peace!

Seun a while ago, expressed why gambling schemes such as forex, binary options and cryptocurrencies were no longer allowed on this board.

Whether it is because we have not been vigilant enough or because we have been easily coerced, certain "super threads" on these banned topics have grown in the business section.

To be fair to all involved and to ensure that everyone is treated equally, we would need to consider locking these threads, specifically the ones below:

https://www.nairaland.com/5608088/forex-trade-alerts-season-20

https://www.nairaland.com/5608144/football-other-sports-betting-season

Has anyone suffered as a victim to any of these threads, or does anyone have any reasons why they should be kept open?

It would be an understatement to say banning Binary Options and Forex trading threads is an action done out of complete ignorance.
Would you also ban Stock Trading activities or threads?
Falling victims to fraudsters is not an exclusive preserve of the financial markets...Binary and forex in particular.
In every other sphere of human life, there exist the probability of being misused and fraudsters taking advantage to defraud the newbies or the innexperienced, shall we therefore, close down every form of business that a fraudster can take advantage of?

Pls sho me examples of business both online and offline that is free of fraud.

Please allow both Binary options and forex trading threads to thrive but lay solid control measures if the admin feels it's not secure enough.

I'm a Systems Engr. but I make 60% of my monthly income from Trading Binary Options and Forex.

I visit those threads almost everyday. Do you have a counter of how many advert on a specific page that a particular moniker click on per month??

Seun look at this scenario; whenever I am in any of those threads, an advert pop up at the top or bottom of the page, I click, after redirect, I do business with that person thru his/her website. In the person's mind, he/she will say I subscribed for an advert placement on NL, now I am getting traffic to my website. The person paid NL for the advert placement, he/she get paid for the transaction I initiated on his/her website. Then he/she will think of extending the validity period of the advert placed on NL which will in turn bring more money to your purse. So THINK.

Seun . Think like a business man. Ji masun. FYI: I lost interest in NL a long time ago but those threads brought me back the same way it bring many people back.

BTW I don't have to remind you that those threads are the most visited. I believe you also know, maybe that's why una create new topic for discussion, if not then you will have delete it without anybody's consent.

PS: is it true that some of your mod don't get salary? OP said something similar to it.

If you don't seek, you can't find...I only discovered the betting and forex thread last year after BBN made me register on bet9ja when I was searching all through nairaland business section for legit ways of making money

I mean, you can be on nairaland for 10 years and not know some threads exist, like someone said earlier, these people are into these stuffs either as passion, hobby or what have you, closing the thread won't stop or change anything

Majority are friends who communicate outside here, they could create whatsapp, telegram or facebook groups (some even belong to either already) and continue their stuffs...

From my little 'small boy cheesy' observations, people get scammed more in that ecurrency thread than betting where they mostly help each with funds...

But then what do I know, just a small boy doing my small business here; readers discretion is advised

Uncle Seun, thanks for this platform...I owe you one 100ml oil perfume, Pls let me know your favourite fragrance and I will deliver to Ota

Can I please state that some mods are volunteers. We don't want salaries. We are doing this out of passion.

Personally, I respect Seun for building one of the largest information portals in Nigeria and I'm very passionate about Nigeria. If in my little way, I can help to manage the flow of information on a way that benefits honest Nigerians financially, then
that is enough reward for me. Thanks

If that is the case most of the mods need to do better, nairaland is currently becoming old past glory. Stale news attimes and alot of atrocities are also done here which is bringing bad face to the site.

Closing the betting or forex threads wont stop people from still betting or trading at the end of the day, only nairaland will be at a lost here because alot of people visit those two threads and even join nairaland because of those forum (Like Me). People also get scammed or defrauded because of their own carelessness. If you follow the forex thread you will notice it is very difficult for anyone to be scammed because there are alot of veterans there who protect the newbies or people new into forex. Only Ignorant people call forex a gamble kiss

Isn't it funny that Seun has investments in Stocks and Treasury Bills but somehow believes Forex is gambling?

It's similar to a case of someone who loves music videos but dislikes movies and series.

Volunteers for e-coy that is making money? As much as I like your passion towards this, I found it rather unethical to not get paid.

It's your business Seun you are free to ban you can't keep threatening FTA year in year out of banning. In this 21st century that the federal government is advising the youth to learn forex is what you are calling gambling. Ignorance is what we make any mod or you to type boldy that forex is gambling.

The only thread that do bring me and many other traders to Nairaland is that Forex trade alert that your admin tagged in her post that has been existing on this Nairaland 10years back.

There are many other social platform outside Nairaland where traders meet.

I don't need anything to proof to you unless you have $1million you want me to manage for you.
The decisions is yours to made.
Good luck

I don't want to derail, but the fact that he makes money from the forum doesn't affect me, as I have my own source of income.

It may not make sense but the change I would like to see in our country cannot be brought about by doing things that benefit just me. This is one small way I can work towards contributing.
